School Closures
200156 H. L. Strong Academy (Little Bay Islands) will close effective June 2018.
Students that would have attended H. L. Strong Academy (200156) will attend Green
Bay South Academy (300167).

200115 Our Lady of Mercy Elementary will close. Grade K-6 students that would have
attended Our Lady of Mercy Elementary will attend the new K-12 school (to be named)
occupying the combined building sites of Our Lady of Mercy Elementary and Appalachia
High.

200116 Appalachia High will close. Grade 7-12 students that would have attended
Appalachia High will attend the new K-12 school Bayview Academy 200116 occupying
the combined building sites of Our Lady of Mercy Elementary and Appalachia High

School Openings
200116 Bayview Academy, A new K-12 school will open in the combined building
formerly occupied by Our Lady of Mercy Elementary and Appalachia High. Students that
would have attended Our Lady of Mercy Elementary and Appalachia High will attend the
new K-12 school instead.

Nova Central School Region Region ID: 300

300160 Bayview Primary in Nipper’s Harbour will remain closed for the 2018-19 school
year due to zero student enrolment.

Eastern School Region Region ID: 400

Catchment Zone Changes
400345 Mary Queen of Peace Elementary catchment zone will be reduced to exclude
students in the Exclusive Family Responsibility zone to East Point Elementary (with the
exception of Gregory Street, Lucyrose Lane, and Gerard Place). The Exclusive Family
Responsibility zone includes those addresses within 1.6 km of East Point Elementary but
not within the same distance from other K-6 schools. Students within this area that would
have been zoned for Mary Queen of Peace Elementary are zoned for East Point
Elementary instead.

400364 East Point Elementary catchment zone will expand to include students in the
Exclusive Family Responsibility zone to East Point Elementary (with the exception of
Gregory Street, Lucyrose Lane, and Gerard Place). The Exclusive Family Responsibility
zone includes those addresses within 1.6 km of East Point Elementary but not within the

School Name Change

400496 Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s Intermediate is officially renamed Brookside

Intermediate effective November 2017.

School Configuration Changes

400372 St. Bernard’s Elementary is reconfigured from K-6 to K-5. Grade 6 students who
would have attended St. Bernard’s Elementary will attend Mobile Central High (400307)
instead, but will be housed at the St. Bernard’s Elementary building for 2018-19 until
Mobile Central High 400307 building extension is complete.

400307 Mobile Central High is reconfigured from 7-12 to 6-12. Grade 6 students who
would have attended St. Bernard’s Elementary (400372) attend Mobile Central High
instead, but will be housed at the St. Bernard’s Elementary(400372) building for 2018-
19 pending completion of extension to Mobile Central High (400307).

400497 CBS Elementary (K-6) will change to a K-7 School beginning in 2018-19.

School Feeder Changes

400497 CBS Elementary (K-6) will change to a K-7 School beginning in 2018-19. The
Grade 6 students that would have attended Grade 7 at Frank Roberts Junior High will
continue to attend CBS Elementary (K-7) in September 2018. In September 2019-20, the
Grade 7 students attending CBS Elementary (400497) will transfer to Frank Roberts
Junior High(400300) in Grade 8 .

400300 Frank Roberts Junior High (400300) will continue as a 7-9 school for 2018-19
school year. The Grade 6 students transferring from St. George’s Elementary (400306),
St. Edward’s Elementary (400303), Upper Gullies Elementary (400371) will continue to
attend Frank Roberts Junior High (400300) in Grade 7.

Grade 7 students from CBS Elementary who would have attended Frank Roberts Junior
High attend CBS Elementary instead. CBS Elementary will feed into Frank Roberts
Junior High for grade 8 starting in 2019-20.

Program Changes

400353 St. Kevin’s Junior High will cease to offer Late French Immersion. Late French
Immersion was not offered for grade 7 students in 2017-18.
