PAST SIMPLE

O Past Simple utiliza-se para descrever:

a) ações acabadas num tempo definido no passado;

1. REGULAR VERBS (regulares porque seguem regras para a formação do passado)

AFFIRMATIVE – RULES:
AFFIRMATIVE

I worked
 Regra geral: acrescenta-se “ed”:
You worked talk talked

watch watched
He worked
 Aos verbos terminados em e: acrescenta-se apenas “d”:
She worked love loved

It worked dance danced

 Verbos terminados em vogal + y, acrecenta-se ed:


We worked play played

You worked stay stayed

They worked  Verbos terminados em consoante + y, este é substituído por i e


acrescenta-se ed:
study studied

try tried

 Verbos terminados em consoante + vogal + consoante cuja sílaba


tónica é a última, dobra-se a última consoante e acrescenta-se ed:
stop stopped

travel travelled
NEGATIVE
A negativa é formada por:

I didn’t work sujeito – verbo auxiliar – not – verbo principal (infinitivo)

You didn’t work

He didn’t work
Ex:
She didn’t work
Hélia did not work yesterday.
It didn’t work

You did not work yesterday.
You didn’t work

They didn’t work

INTERROGATIVE
A interrogativa é formada por:
Did I work

Did You work verbo auxiliar – sujeito – verbo principal

Did He work

Did She work


Ex:

Did You work Did You work yesterday?

Did They work

Nas respostas curtas, utiliza-se apenas o verbo “To Do”, no Past Simple:

Ex: Did you eat pizza at lunch? Yes, I did. / No, I didn’t.

Did Hélia walk to work? Yes, she did. / No, she didn’t.
