Thorndike’s Laws of Learning

Edward L. Thorndike had connected learning with stimuli and responses.

Stimulus response or association theory of learning states that in every stimulus there is

a corresponding response.

The three basic laws of learning through association theory are the law

readiness, the law of exercise, and the law of effect. When it comes to the law of

readiness it applies when a person is willing to react or act when it is satisfactory to

allow them to do so and it would be annoying to avoid for example If students are well

prepared for the class, they can learn, understand, and absorb knowledge quickly.

When it comes to the law of exercise it says that repeating a response over and over

strengthens your connection to the stimulus, while not using a response weakens it for

example Practice and exercises increase the efficiency and longevity of learning. The

law of effect says that learning is strengthened when it leads to satisfaction, but

becomes weaker when it leads to anger or anger example the actions of every teacher

have an indirect effect on the behavior of students,
