PURPOSE OF MEDICATION

Replaces and maintains normal magnesium levels, acts as § Mild hypomagnesemia


anticonvulsant and reduces muscle contractions § Seizures in preeclampsia

Medication Administration
§ Overdose § IV- administer diluted store between

§ Calcium channel blockers cause increased mag- related adverse
effects
§ Monitor for seizure activity.
§ Cardiac glycosides causes serious cardiac conduction changes
§ CNS depressant causes CNS depression
§ Neuromuscular blockers causes neuromuscular blockage

Evaluation of Medication Effectiveness § Explain the use of the education


and the reason behind it being
§ Therapeutic range of magnesium level are maintained given.

§ Absent of seizures § Teach patient about low and high


magnesium level signs and
§ No signs of eclampsia symptoms and to report them.

§ Encourage pt to report any


adverse effects
