ABSTRACT

RIZMAYANTI: The Influence of Hatha Yoga on the Decrease of the

Intensity of Dysmenorrhea in Female Students at
MTs Nurul Islam Dasan Baru, Central Lombok

This study was inspired by the pain experienced by female

students before and during menstruation caused by an increase of
prostaglandin hormones. It triggers uterine muscle contractions
causing pain in the abdomen and spreading to the thighs. One of
the efforts made to reduce the intensity of dysmenorrhea is to do
hatha yoga exercises. This research was true experiment with
pretest-posttest control group design. The Sampling technique
used was simple random sampling with a sample of 44 respondents
divided into two groups, namely treatment group consisting of 22
respondents and control group consisting of 22 other respondents.
To gain the data, questionnaire was employed. While to Analyze
data, a paired t-test was used. Based on the results of pre-test
in the treatment group, it was found that 4 students experienced
mild pain and 18 female students experienced moderate pain.
Meanwhile, in the control group, there were 3 female students
experienced mild pain and 19 female students experienced moderate
pain. After treatment group received the treatment of hatha yoga,
3 female students did not experience pain at all, 14 female
students experienced mild pain and 5 female students experienced
moderate pain. While in the control group there was no change on
the results as it didn’t receive any treatment at all. Based on
statistical test analysis by using SPSS version 16, it was found
that the t-count value was 18,632 with the number of respondents
22 people in the df = N-1 was 21 and t-table with a significant
level of 5% was 2,080, so that t-count (18,632) > t-table
(2,080), then H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. The results
suggest that there was the effect of Hatha Yoga on the decrease
of the intensity of Dysmenorrhea in female students at MTS Nurul
Islam Dasan Baru, Central Lombok. Referring to the results of the
research above, the researcher strongly suggests female students
to do hatha yoga exercises as a treatment of dysmenorrhea.
