What is safety ?
 Safety is the condition of being protected from or
unlikely to cause danger risk or injury
 Safety can also be defined to be the control of
recognized hazards to achieve an acceptable level of
risk.
Difference between Incident , Accident & Injury
 Incidents
 Anything that could have caused an injury or damage if it
hadn’t been caught in time
 Accidents
 Anything that causes an injury or property damage
 Injury
 Anything that requires treatment, even minor first aid.

Gang Way Safety
➢ Due to presence of material transportation vehicles
inside the shop , ALWAYS WALK ON THE SIDE OF
THE GANG WAY to avoid accidents and provide smooth
movement.

➢ Wherever in Gang Way , Black and Yellow Zebra lines
have been marked , always follow “STOP , LOOK and
GO” principle.

Do’s

equipment to the supervisor
✓ In the event of fire, report to the
supervisor immediately and leave the
building immediately and assemble at
assembly point
✓ Any oil spillage, grease must be cleaned
up immediately
Don’ts
✓ Do not enter the workshop without
permission
✓ Do not work on the machine unless
instructed by superiors
✓ Never wear jewellary or loose clothes
while working on machines
✓ Don’t touch live wires
Personal Protective
Equipment
PPE forms an integral part of personal safety in MSIL.
Various equipments are prescribed for keeping the
surroundings of an individual safe in the weld shop.
These include the various equipments listed below :

Safety for handling the panels
➢ While picking up the component from the trolley ,
always make sure you firmly hold the component from
the right place.

➢ If you hold the component loosely , it might slip and


sharp edges may cut and hurt you.

Safety for Tip Dressing
➢ Before you start filing the tip , make sure you remove
the plug of trigger switch of the welding gun.

➢ While filing , never put any body part between two tips
of the welding gun.

➢ Always handle the gun with precaution. Make sure you
never handle it from the main body.

➢ Welding gun could be hot , may hurt you and cause


burns if inappropriate handling is done.

➢ While welding , be cautious about other workers

Safety while operating Jigs
➢ As most of the jigs in our shop are automatic , while
operating , make sure that neither you or any of the
other worker is near the clamp of the jig.

5S related Safety on Jigs
➢ Never store any component , water bottles , helmets or
any other articles on the Jig.

➢ As the ejector moves up/down , you could get hurt due


to unwanted articles on the jig.

Safety while Jig not clamping
➢ Due to some reason , if the component doesn’t fix on
the Jig , always put the jig on a MANUAL mode before
you try to fix the component.

Safety while Fan Tilting
➢ Never touch or tilt fan while it is in motion.

➢ Always Switch Off the power plug before you adjust


the Fan.

Using Fire Extinguisher
➢ In case of fire , use Fire Extinguisher.
➢ Firstly , make sure all the fire extinguishers are in
working conditions and are at their correct locations.
➢ In case of fire , immediately call 3456 and inform the
Fire Department.
➢ Never use Water or Soda Ash fire extinguisher in case
of an Electrical Fire.

Using First Aid
➢ In case of any small cut or bruises , do use First Aid.

➢ First Aid Box is available at dedicated work areas inside


the shop.

Summary
 Hazards which could be dangerous for health and safety in
weld shop are Fumes& Gases, Electric shock , Radiation ,
Noise , Fire & Burns
 PPE’s (Personnel protective Equipment ) equipment is
available to assure you are properly protected against the
hazards of welding.
 PPE’s in weld shop are Helmet, hand shield , protective
glasses , Ear plugs, Dust mask , Gloves , Arm cover , Safety
shoes
Summary
