APPRROPRIATE CLOTHING

 Use close fitting clothes


 Shirt must be tucked in, sleeves are to be rolled up
 Dust coat not allowed when using lathe
 Jewellery, watches and accessories are not to be worn
PPE

 Use ear plugs to protect against exposure to loud noise


 Long hair must me tied back in a bun and a bun covered with a hair net
 Long beard must me covered by a beard net
 Use dust mask if exposed to dust
 Look up material, safety data sheet on material being worked on
HOUSEKEEPING

Good house keeping is essential for workplace safety. A messy workshop is a


dangerous place
 Keep the floor clean and free from any obstructions
 Keep all power tools turned off and to their proper places when not in use
 Use dust pan, a rag or wonder wand clean up magnet to pick up metal shavings
and swarf
 Keep floor free from coolant spills
 Keep all machines , work benches and floor around machinery clean.
 Keep rags away from grinders and welding equipments
REPORTING AND AVOIDING
ACCIDENTS
Immediately report to the workshop supervisor if any accidents , hazards or miss
occurs
Hazards includes:
 Faulty tools
 Damaged insulation and plugs
 Missing or inadequate machines
 Improper Guarding
 Unsafe procedures
 Slippery floors
 Any other obstructions
EMERGENCY RESPONSE

 Make sure you know the evacuation procedure


 When required to evacuate leave workshop calmly and as quickly as possible
 In case of fire , yell “ fire ! Fire! Fire! to inform other
 Extinguish fire if you are confident only

Remember your safety is more important than friends safety

Files

 Do not use hand to clean file. chips on file may penetrate hands. Use
file card
 One should not use file with out handle
 Do not use file as hammer. It is highly brittle. So breaks easily
CHISELS

 Hold the chisel in such a way such that blowing hammer


may not miss the chisel to injure hand
 Don’t not use hands to touch edges of metal cut by chisel
 Flying chips are dangerous . Wear transparent plastic safety
goggles and a shield while using chisel
 Remove sharp edges by filing or grinding
Hammers

 Make sure handle is tightly fixed


 Place hammer on bench carefully. Falling
hammer causes serious injury
 Do not hold the hammer too far on handle
SAWS

 One should not test the sharpness of blade by running


finger across the teeth
 Wear goggles to prevent from flying chips
 Store it properly so that you don’t accidentally reach
teeth of saw
 Use saw very carefully. If blade breaks, causes injury
screwdriver

 While working on electrical equipment use screw


driver with proper handle
 Wear goggles in re-sharpening screw drivers tip
 Use correct tip of screw driver according to type of
screw. otherwise it may damage work
wrench

 Always pull the wrech instead of pushing so that pulling has


wide control than pushing .-less chance of injury
 It is dangerous practice to lengthen the wrench handle for
additional leverage. Use long wrench
 Choose a wrench that fits properly. A loose fitting wrench
may slip and round off the corners of bolt head and nut
