COURSE PLAN

1.0 LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

PREREQUISITE : Basic idea of concept of etiquette and professionalism


 
2.0 OBJECTIVES OF COURSE:

The objective this course is to equip the students with the fundamentals of business etiquette and
teach them to build relationship, create a professional appearance, develop positive relationship
with co-workers, and practice cubicle and office etiquette.

3.0 SYLLABUS

The syllabus consists of the following major sections

1. Unit – I Introduction to Business Etiquette: Business Etiquette-Meaning and
Definition, Role of Good Manners in Business, the ABCs of
Etiquette. Meeting and Greeting Scenarios: Guidelines for
Receptionists, Making Introductions and Greeting People,
introducing a client, Introducing Yourself, The Protocol of Shaking
Hands.
2. Unit – II Meeting &Board Room Protocol: Guidelines for Planning a
Meeting, Guidelines for Attending a Meeting, Protocol for
Chairperson and Members attending the meeting. The costs and
benefits of meetings. Post meeting follow-up. Entertaining
Etiquettes: Objectives, Introduction, planning a Meal Meeting,
Business Meals Basics, Basics of Table Etiquette, Eating the Meal,
Issuing Invitations, Choosing the Appropriate Gift in the Business
Environment. Office protocol: Office etiquette, Cubicle and office
etiquette, Office relationships.
3. Unit – III Professionalism: Meaning and Definition, tips for business owners
and career professionals, Trends in Professionalism, Balancing
business with professionalism. Presenting yourself professionally,
professional appearance, personal organization, professional
communications: Making introductions, Networking skills, active
listening.
4 Unit – IV Professional conduct: Creating Impact-A code of Professional
conduct, Appropriate use of the Internet, Ethical dilemmas,
Personal issues in the workplace. Communicating in the workplace:
Introductions, Conversations, Etiquette in meetings. Etiquette in
communication: Telephone courtesy, Email etiquette, Writing
guidelines, Cultural considerations. Traveling for business: The
courteous traveler, International travel.
4.0 COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES:
CLO 1: It will help in defining professional behavior and suggest standards for appearance,
actions and attitude in a business environment.
CLO 2: It explains different communication styles and how to adjust in the business
environment.
CLO 3: It will prepare students in participating and handling variety of social and business
situations, networking events, business meetings, business meals and more.
CLO 4: It will help students to thoroughly review dinning etiquettes from casual buffets to
formal dinners.
CLO 5: It will help students to review the essentials of offline and online business
networking.
CLO 6: It will act as guide for importance of workplace appearance for any dress code.

5. PEDAGOGY:

This course will be taught by lectures/analytical exercises focusing to make students understand
various social, political, legal and economic and other factors that influence business in India so
as to enable them appreciates associated opportunities, risks and challenges and their relevance
for managerial decisions. Students will be motivated to take assignments/quiz and undergo more
case studies.

6. EVALUATION OF GRADING:

Students will be evaluated based on the following 4 stages.

5.1 Best of 4 Class test/case let/quiz - scaled to 25 marks


5.2 Attendance: scaled to 5 marks
5.3 Mid-term Examination (50 marks each) - scaled to 20 marks
5.4 End term Examination (100 marks) - scaled to 50 marks

Date sheet of Mid Term Examination will be displayed on notice board.


5. 1 Quizzes/ Case lets/ practical problems type questions will be held; one quiz at least
once in a week will be taken. Both will be evaluated for final marks
5.3 MID TERM EXAMINATION: WEIGHTAGE – 20 marks
Midterm exams will be held twice per semester. It will be for one and half hour duration.
5.4 END TERM EXAMINATION: WEIGHTAGE – 50 marks

End Term Examination shall be Three Hours duration and shall be a combination of
Short and Long theory/numerical Questions.

7. GRADING:

The overall marks obtained at the end of the semester comprising all the above four
mentioned shall be converted to a grade.
8. ATTENDANCE:

Students are required to have a minimum attendance of 75% in the subject. Students with
less than the stipulated percentage shall not be allowed to appear in the End Term
Examination.
