Youth job training program due to begin Monday

LANCASTER — A local youth job training
program for residents experiencing poverty
and homelessness will begin on Monday.
The Lost Angels Work Program is a classic
car restoration training program designed for
the purpose of workforce development for
those ages 18 to 25 who are not in school and
not employed.
It is a 12-week program that features paid
training in an industrial manufacturing/auto
restoration social enterprise, job search and
placement assistance with local employers and
soft skills training in areas such as resumes/
cover letters and mock interviews.
Graduates of the program will receive
assistance obtaining their GED or diploma,
driver permit/license, housing, reliable
transportation, food insecurity, and healthcare
needs.
The training program is intended to fill
including aerospace, construction, automotive
and appliance technicians.
The Lost Angels Work Program
unites resources to build a pathway from
unemployment to permanent work. So far,
16 of the 24 graduates of the program have
obtained full-time employment.
Local employers who have hired Lost Angels
Work Program Graduates include Northrup
Grumman, Stratolaunch, Aftos, Inc., Delta
Scientific, U.S. Pole & Lighting, BYD, Lance
Camper, Home Depot, Amazon, Apple One,
Inc., Temco Logistics, Edwards Airforce Base
and Pacific Bend Metal Fabrication.

COMPTON (AP) — A
huge fire visible across Los
Angeles burned stacks of pal-
lets in a commercial yard and
buses parked in a neighboring
lot Friday.
The inferno erupted in
Compton before dawn and
created a massive column of
smoke that rose high into the
sky and spread widely across
the metropolitan area.
There was no immediate
assessment of the total loss,
but at least a dozen buses
could be seen ablaze during
the height of the fire.
One firefighter had a minor
ankle injury, but there were no
other injuries, said Compton

have started in an alley. The
cause was under investigation
but it did not appear to be sus-
picious, he said.
Nearby residents blamed a
homeless encampment in the
alley.
“They’re barbecuing,
making fires to stay warm,”

Elias Hernandez said the
fire burned a homeless man’s
belongings before spreading
to a utility pole, and “from
there, it just started spreading
everywhere.’ ”
He said he tried to douse
the blaze with a hose.
The fire was reported
around 4:45 a.m., and more
than 100 firefighters and 26
fire engines from multiple de-
partments responded to the
industrial district surrounded
by neighborhoods about 10
miles south of downtown Los
Angeles.
