FS2: LEARNING EPISODE 1

ACTIVITY 1.1: APPLICATION OF THE PRINCIPLES OF LEARNING IN THE CLASSROOM

Field Study Student: ________________________________________ Subject: Science

Resource Teacher: _________________________________________ Teacher’s signature: ________________

School: __________________________________________________ Date of Observation: _______________

Grade/Year level: 6__________________________________________ Section: __________________________

INSTRUCTIONS: In the classroom, you are tasked to observe, pay attention to how the teacher facilitates the learning
experience of the students. Briefly describe how the teacher applied each principle indicated below. Leave the space
blank if a specific principle was not evidently seen during your observation.

Principles of learning Teacher’s application

1. Learning start with clear goals and expectations. The teacher states the objectives of the lesson to her
students.

2. Learning is an experience that differs among The teacher shows a picture of one scenario, then the
every learner. students will describe it on their own.

3. Learning becomes more pronounced through The teacher group the class into five, then give them
cooperation and collaboration. work that will be done by the group. Aside from this, the
discussion becomes a teacher-learners collaboration
since it is the teacher only is the one that discussed, but
also the whole class.
4. Learning is finding meaning and relevance The teacher connects the lesson to the real-life situation
among different concepts. and also connects to the different subjects.

5. Learning is linked to behavior change. At the end part of the discussion, the teacher asks a
question “What do you do with a piece of trash when
there is no trash can near you?” Then the students start
to think about the different scenarios in their life, related
to the question.
6. Learning is a process that evolves through time. The teacher used updated references for her lessons so
that she can give updated information to her students.

7. Learning is a product of experience. The teacher asks the students questions about their
experiences during typhoons. She also engaged the
students in hands-on activities.
8. Learning is a process of translating abstract ideas After the discussion, the teacher plays videos of typhoon
into actual project that can address different and its effect society.
issues in the community.
PROCESSING QUESTIONS AND ANALYSIS

1. According to your observations, which principles cited above were well-defined in terms of the teacher’s
implementation? What can you say about this?

I think, “learning is a product of experience” is the well-defined in terms of the teacher’s

implementation, because the students really connect to the discussion since the example experiences were
came from them. It is so easy for the learners to cope up with the discussion. Aside from asking questions, she
engaged the students in hands-on activities so that they will be able to connect the knowledge learned in
discussion.

2. What specific concerns may arise when a teacher disregards the principles of learning?

One of the specific concerns that may arise when the teacher disregards the principles of learning is, the
deliberation of learning to the students will not be effective and efficient.

INSIGHT AND REFLECTION

What insight and reflection can you derive from this specific field of study experience?

Teaching requires adapting. We need to continually reflect on our teaching and be ready to make
changes when appropriate. It is a multifaceted activity, often requires us to juggle multiple tasks and goals
simultaneously. When we teach, we do not just teach the content, we teach students the content. We, the
teachers need to be a facilitator for the student’s learning. Our goal is not about their learning on the specific
lesson but also their knowledge if they will enter or encounter the real-life situation.

The learning’s goal is to give the children what they need and make them realize things that they could
not gain outside the class with the guidance of a teacher. The teacher must not feel the students that they are
the ones who are always the resource of information. The learning’s goal is to give the children what they
need and make them realize things that they could not gain outside the class with the guidance of a teacher.
We are leaving now in a computer world, meaning we are now living in an advanced society. As a teacher, we
must avoid this kind of threat to the students because students sometimes are more advanced in learning
base on what kind of society we are leaving now. We to be reasonable sometimes and understand that they
have restored knowledge on their own.
CLOSING DISCUSSION

State (5) key learning points that you were able to capture in this field study experience.

Build on prior knowledge and skills by assessing prior experience and building new knowledge
on it.

Learning is teaching students with the things aligned to learning outcomes.

MY KEY
LEARNING Learnings is a process of practice where there is a reflections and learnings to improve on
teaching from the drop of failures and mistakes in preparing and delivering the lessons.
POINTS
We, the teachers are facilitators, we are not the main source of learnings.
Learning must focus to students where the teachers must focus to continually improve their
strategy when it comes to teaching to cater all different learning styles and diversities.

Learnings must integrate different type of teaching approach that motivates the students to
develop high order critical thinking skills.
