JOB TITLE: Activism and Resource Officer, Indonesia

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL ENTITY: Indonesia National Office

TYPE OF CONTRACT: Fixed Term 12 Months

JOB PURPOSE: To support the development and implementation of activism strategies


across the organization and contribute to AI Indonesia supporter growth target and human rights
impacts. This is done by mobilizing the general public through activism program as well as the use
of online supporter relationship management software. This role is responsible for delivering,
monitoring, and evaluating activism projects for Amnesty International Indonesia involving the
mobilization of the general public. This is done to enable progressively deeper level of engagement
and strengthen our campaign impact as well as support Amnesty Indonesia supporter growth target

AI INDONESIA PURPOSE: Amnesty International Indonesia is a national human


rights entity that is part of a global human rights movement, established to address national
human rights priorities as well as create the possibility for people in Indonesia to join
Amnesty International’s global human rights campaigns. Our mission in Indonesia is to
address pertinent national human rights issues through research, campaigning and human
rights education, and to empower Indonesians to take action on issues that matter to them
through AI’s international human rights movement; and to leverage Indonesia’s influence
regionally and globally to promote human rights domestically, bilaterally and internationally.

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL PURPOSE: We campaign for meaningful human


rights change; enable effective human rights activism and work to persuade governments and
other actors to uphold universal rights standards.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

Reporting to: Activism and Resource Coordinator

People that this job manage: This role will support the coordination of interns and
volunteers

Other key relationships: Campaign staff, Research staff, Communication staff, Office,
and Finance

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supporter base growth and CRM management:
• Implement growth strategies by making use of the CRM system to support AI Indonesia
supporter growth target.
• Maintain and manage AI Indonesia supporter, activist, and volunteer database.
• Monitor and measure growth monitoring system periodically

Online
supporter retention and mobilization program:
• Implement AII online retention strategy.
• Develop and implement online supporter journey.
• Carry out online newsletter project.
• Manage communication with AI Indonesia supporters through regular email updates for new
petitions and other upcoming AII events.
• Support the creation of RSVP, email blasts, surveys and other online supporter engagement
activities
• Support the use of online petition to contribute to AI Indonesia supporter growth goals and
campaign activities.

Activism Program:
• Support the implementation of activism projects, in particular the annual PENA and Write for
Rights campaign.
• Support the development of activism toolkits.
• Facilitate the implementation of PENA and Write and Rights through online engagement
• Mobilize volunteers both online and offline for Amnesty campaign priorities

Social Justice Leaders Project


• Assist the implementation of Social Justice Leaders project using the CRM system
• Monitor and engagement and supporter growth generated through SJL project periodically.

Resource development
• Coordinate the design and production of AII merchandise such as t-shirts, pins and do son.
• Other tasks within your skills and competence as required

WHAT DOES SUCCESS LOOK LIKE IN THIS JOB?

• S/he would have effectively implemented AII activism strategies to involve supporters,
activists and volunteers in supporting AII key campaign priorities and deepen
engagement of AII stakeholders.
• S/he would have developed and maintained growth infrastructure and resources to
enable effective movement building through strong mobilisation, and community
organising program.
• S/he would have successfully increased internal capacity of the organisation to
undertake those functions by running an effective volunteer program for AII.
• S/he would have generated external awareness and activities on AI Indonesia’s
programs by mobilising and supporting the AII constituencies and expanded networks
of influence in relation to key concerns and priority areas in the Indonesian strategic
plan; and written high quality materials for publication and other outputs.
• S/he will have contributed to the effective functioning of the team, and to the
implementation of AI Indonesia 's mission, upholding AI Indonesia and AI’s values at
all times.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Essential:
• At least 1 year of experience in executing activism and mobilisation strategies for
social change campaigns.
• Knowledge of human rights issues and social change methods and tactics, including
experience of grassroots mass mobilisation techniques, online organising (including
e-activism), and other new and innovative mobilisation techniques.
• Experience working with and managing volunteers.
• Experience in training and capacity building.
• Demonstrated experience in managing projects towards achievement of agreed
outcomes, including with external stakeholders.
• Excellent communication skills, including a proven ability to adapt content and write
for different mediums and audiences, experience in producing content for email
blast, websites, training modules and demonstrated ability to use content
management systems effectively
• Effective people management skills including an ability to enthuse, motivate and
support others.
• Technology savvy.

Desirable:
• Knowledge and experience working on CRM database systems (e.g. NationBuilder)
• Previous volunteer or internship experience in Amnesty International Action Groups or
other NGOs
• Knowledge of Wordpress, MailChimp
