1. Model Number

1.1 Model number of splices

Model No.
Part No.
With tin-plated Without plating
SPC-01T SPC-01
SPC splice SPC-20T SPC-20
SPC-40T SPC-40

1.2 Crimping tool (crimping shape: N crimp)

Model No. of applicable crimping tool

Product name
Crimping machine Applicator Die Applicator and die set
SPC-01 (T) MK/SPC-01 APLMK SPC01
SPC-20 (T) AP-K2( ) MKS-L MK/SPC-20 APLMK SPC20
SPC-40 (T) MK/SPC-40 APLMK SPC40

Note:When crimping operation is conducted by using other than above applicator and die set,
JST cannot guarantee the performance of connector.

2. Applicable Wire

Model No. Applicable wire range (Reference)

SPC-01 (T) 0.2 ~ 0.5 mm2
SPC-20 (T) 0.4 ~ 1.4 mm2
SPC-40 (T) 0.5 ~ 1.7 mm2

Note 1: The applicable wire (total cross sectional area) shown above is for reference only. Evaluation test on
the wires to be used is required before using these splices.

Note 2: Applicable wire is annealed copper stranded tin-plated wire.

Special wires such as solid wire, tin-coated wire, or those of non-annealed copper material
cannot be used in principle.

3. Crimping Operation

Before crimping operation, be sure to check the combination of splice, wire to be used and
crimping tool are correct.
As this splice has many varieties of wire type and combination, standard crimp height is not specified.
Depending on your combination to be used, we show you the applicable crimp height and wire setting after
checking the applicability.

3-1 Wire strip

When wire is stripped, do not damage or cut off wire conductors.

As wire strip length differs depending on type of wire, the combination, etc., decide the best wire strip
length considering processing condition.

3-2 Crimping

Check the below points for correct crimping.

3-2-1 Crimping appearance

Check crimping appearance visually for correct crimping with equipment such as a loupe.

 

Fig.-1

No. Item Reference value (mm)

 Bell-mouth Even length at both sides
 Wire conductor protruding length Approx. 0.1 ~ 0.5 mm
 Cut-off length Approx. 0 ~ 0.4 mm

3-2-2 Examples of defective crimping regarding as wire at right side

Wire conductor protruding length is insufficient. Wire barrel bites wire insulation.

3-2-3 Measurement of crimp height

According to wire to be used, adjust dials of applicator to a proper crimp height.

Measurement of crimp height (Refer to Fig.-3.)

Fig.-3

A: Set crimp height at wire barrel part to the range of specified dimension.
H: Measure crimp height at the center of barrel using specified micrometer.

Measurement timing of crimp height

 When operation starts at morning and afternoon, starts after pausing and finishes.
 When splice reel is exchanged.
 When applicator is adjusted. (after trouble-shooting, etc.)
 When crimping dies are exchanged.

3-3 Precautions for crimping operation

 Do not conduct empty crimping and crimping twice, because they may cause outstanding
burr at crimped part and may lead to abrasion of crimping die quickly.
 As cutting residue (powder), etc. adhered to crimping die part affects life of dies, clean
crimping part occasionally and conduct appropriate crimping.
 As abrasion of crimping die and insufficient adjustment of applicator may cause defective
crimping appearance, do not fail to conduct daily inspection.

4. Precautions for storage and handling of crimped splice

 Protect splices by wrapping with paper to prevent from deformation and adhesion of foreign
matter, and keep them in an adequate box.
 Do not place splices in humid area, under direct sunshine and directly on the floor.
Store them in a clean room with ordinary temperature and humidity.
Never spray insecticide in storage area of crimped splices, because such spray may cause rust on
splices.
 Do not stack too much quantity of crimped splices nor place anything on them, because
weight of themselves may cause deformation of splice.
 When a crimped splice is taken out of bundle, do not pull wire but hold wire near crimped
section taken it out.
