Presentation Assignment

Signature Assessment
The following program learning outcomes will be assessed in this course at the
introductory level:
1.2 Demonstrate an understanding of symptoms, diagnostic procedures,
pathology, staging, grading, treatment options and treatment planning for each
type of cancer
3.2 Students will use effective oral communication
3.1 Students will demonstrate effective written communication skills
4.1 Graduates will be able to demonstrate collaboration with peers
4.2 Graduates will be able to demonstrate ethical, quality patient care

Presentation Directions:

The presentation topic should relate specifically to cancer. (tx modality, type of cancer,
etc)
 The topic requires prior approval to assure the topic is not too broad and can be
presented in 10 minutes. Prior approval will also provide a variety of
presentations given. Email Instructor your proposed topic choice by
assigned date on your syllabus
 Explains and demonstrates an understanding of symptoms, pathology,
staging/grading, and treatment options for the cancer topic.
 Explanation of ethical issues that could possibly occur that is related to patient
care during the diagnosis or treatment. Example: Is culture a factor (age,
religion, race…) when diagnosing or treating? Are clinical trials biased and not
equal or ethical?
 Presentation should include a PowerPoint or some type of visual component.
The PowerPoint should be available for peers.
 Student demonstrates understanding of the topic and is able to discuss and
answer questions.
 The student discusses the topic rather than reading from notes or slides; speaks
clearly with appropriate volume, and maintains eye contact with audience.
Professionalism should be demonstrated with appropriate attire and
communication skills. Presentation lasts a minimum of 10 minutes.
 References are cited, correct spelling and grammar used
 Demonstrates respect of peers. Peer review to be completed on all
presentations.

Students must hand in a copy of the PowerPoint slides or notes and reference list to
instructor on the first day of presentations. If there are no volunteers to go on the first
day, everyone must be prepared and instructor will randomly choose a student to
present.

Reminder: this presentation is worth 10% of your grade.
