A. Introduction Week 1 Like plants and other living things, music also has forms. These forms may
Panimula vary according to the melody of the song. You can recognize the musical
form by just listening to the melodic phrases of the composition. In the
previous grade, you learned how to identify similar, repeated, and
contrasting melodic lines in a song.
Your knowledge in recognizing the melodic lines will help you learn how to
easily distinguish the form of a song.
After going through this lesson, you are expected to identify simple musical
forms.
B. Development Learning Task 1:
Pagpapaunlad
A. Sing and study the melodic pattern of the song, “Row, Row, Row Your
Boat”. Then answer the questions that follow. Write your answers in your
notebook.

1. What do you notice about the melody of the song?


2. Do you think the melody of the song is the same until the end?
3. Which lyrics of the song is different in melody?

The song entitled “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” is the best example of a
musical form called binary form (AB). It is made up of two musical parts, or it
has two different melodic ideas.
B. Study the melodic pattern of the song entitled “Magtanim ay ‘Di Biro”.
Identify part A and part B by copying the lyrics in your notebook.
Learning Task 2:
A. Study the melodic pattern of our national anthem “Lupang Hinirang”.
Answer the following questions. Write your answers in your notebook.

1. What did you notice in each part of the song?


2. How many parts does a song have?
3. What part of the song is similar in melody?

Our national anthem is the best example of the ternary form. It utilizes a
three-part form represented by (ABC) and sometimes, the third part is the
repetition of the first part represented by (ABA).
C. Sing “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” and identify the part of each
phrase. Write your answer in your notebook.

Learning Task 3: Study the musical piece of “Maligayang Araw”. Then answer
the questions that follow. Write your answers in your notebook.
1. How many musical parts does the song “Maligayang Araw” have?
2. Which part is being repeated?
3. What is the pattern for a rondo form?

The song ‘Maligayang Araw’ follows rondo (ABACA) form of music.


It is made up of five or more musical parts with some repetitions.
D. Engagement Week 2 Learning Task 4: Identify the musical form of each song. Write A if the section
Pakikipagpalihan of the song is the main idea, B if it is the contrasting idea or C if it is the
repeated main idea. Write your answer on your notebook.

Learning Task 5: With the help of the members in your family, identify other
songs in binary, ternary, and rondo patterns. Write your answer in your
notebook.

E. Assimilation Learning Task 6: Analyze the following items below and identify them
Paglalapat according to the different forms: binary (AB), ternary (ABA), or rondo
(ABACA). Check the appropriate column. Do this in your notebook.
