Chapter 4 Wiring the frequency converter. 4-1-1 Basic
wiring diagram, description of components.
Power supply: Check voltage food
frequency converter, whether it matches the AC mains voltage,
in order to avoid damage to the frequency converter. Fuse
link, circuit breaker: Installed to provide short circuit
protection for the frequency converter

Electromagnetic contactor:used for cutting converter from

the mains, do not use the magnetic contactor as a power on/off
button for the frequency converter.

Line choke (reactor):Protects the converter frequency from

mains voltage surges, improves the power factor.

Input RF Filter (EMI):input filter inhibits the passage of high-

frequency noise from the inverter to the power supply and vice
versa. Should be used when installing a frequency converter in
cases where additional protection against radio frequency
noise is required. Braking resistor:The braking resistor is set
to avoid overvoltage on the DC bus of the frequency converter,
and improve the braking capacity of the built-in braking unit
and the motor that is being braked. Braking resistor connection
method to inverter up to 1.5kW

Braking resistor:A braking resistor is installed to avoid overvoltage on the bus.DC frequency converter and
improve the braking capacity of the built-in braking unit and the motor that is being braked. The connection
method of braking resistor to inverter up to 1.5KW, see below:

Output RF filter:Used to reduce RF noise at the output

Output choke:used for long motor cable lengths, prevents overvoltage in due to the large distributed
capacitance.

4-1-2 Connecting power circuits.

1. The marking of electrical wires must comply with international standards;
2. Do not connect the inverter power bus to the output terminals (U, V, W). This will damage the
frequency converter!;
3. Please use insulated cables and connect the frequency converter to the power grid with the highest
possible power, connect the ground correctly;
4. The frequency converter must be powered separately from other consumers with large power or high
load current;
5. Ground terminal"E"must be connected in the correct way (impedance below100Ω);
6. The earth cable should be made according to the electrical technical specification, and its length should
be as short as possible;
7. When multiple frequency converters are combined, pay attention to how to connect them together to
create a common ground line:

eleven
TOV "NPF OBERON" Zaporozhye
8. Power and control lines must be distributed separately. Any parallel lines must be separated from each
other by at least 10 cm and any mutual lines must be distributed perpendicularly. The control line
cannot be placed with the power line in the same conduit, otherwise there will be interference;

9. The distance between the frequency converter and the motor should be less than 30m, if the distance is too
long, it will cause parasitic capacitance problems, and in addition, it will cause an error or malfunction on
the frequency converter. In cases where the frequency converter and the motor are installed at a distance
of more than 30m. install a filter at the output of the frequency converter to reduce the carrier frequency.
The distance between the frequency converter and the motor should not exceed 100m.

10. The output channels U, V and W must not have leakage currents to ground;
11. Please make sure that all power circuit terminals are clamped, between wires and terminals, the contact is
in good condition, and make sure that they will not be loosened due to vibration.
12. To reduce interference, it is recommended to equip the electromagnetic components in the external circuit of the
frequency converter (electromagnetic contactor, relay, etc.) with EMC filters.

7. RS-485 communication interface

7-1. Transferred data.

NZ2000 series inverters are equipped with built-in RS-485 communication protocol, and support
Modbus.
This is a serial protocol that defines the data transmission format, including the master request format,
broadcast request, content encoding type (event code, transmission integrity and error control) The
response format of slave devices corresponds to the structure: action confirmation, data return, error
control. If the slave is in an error state at the time of receiving the data or cannot execute the command, it
sends an "alarm" signal to the master
The user can set, modify, read parameter values, read the operating parameters and status of the
frequency converter using a computer or a controller equipped with an RS-interface.

37
TOV "NPF OBERON" Zaporozhye
485.
The data transfer protocol is based on a half-duplex transmission model, when the master device and
only one of the slave devices can exchange data at a particular time. The data sent during the exchange takes
the form of a message. In Asynchronous mode, data is transmitted frame by frame as separate messages.

7-2. Network structure.

The network consists of one command device and several slave devices. Network addressing must be
unique for each device and must be in the range from 1 to 247. 0 is the address for general communication.

7-3. Description of the principles of the protocol

The NZ2000 series inverter uses asynchronous serial master-slave communication protocol. There can
be only one device in the network operating in the "master" mode and generating requests. The rest of the
devices can only respond to requests from the "master" and execute its commands. The "master" device can
be a computer or controller, the frequency converter acts as a "slave". The "master" can interact with both a
separate slave and send broadcast requests to all the "slave" at the same time. In the case of a broadcast
request, the slaves do not need to send an acknowledgment to the master.

7-4.Structure of transmitted data

The NZ2000 frequency converters communicate using the Modbus RTU protocol: the messages used
by the protocol are sent at 3.5 character intervals before each new message.
The characters that can be used when forwarding messages include the numbers 0..9 and the letters
A..F in hexadecimal. Connected devices monitor messages sent over the bus. Each device checks the message
address field to find messages addressed to it. An interval of 3.5 characters means the end of the message.

The entire frame must be transmitted in one stream. If there is a pause of 1.5 characters, then the
receiving device considers that the frame has ended and the following characters are the addresses of the
next message. Similarly, if a new message starts earlier than 3.5 characters after the previous message, it will
be treated as a continuation of it. This will result in an error because the checksum field will have an invalid
value.
The RTU frame format is:

The checksum algorithm is included in the RTU frame and includes a message integrity check
algorithm based on the CRC (cyclic redundancy code) method. The CRC field controls the entire content of the
message. Sono consists of 2 bytes, 16 binary data bits each. The CRC value is calculated by the sending device
and added to the message. The receiving device calculates the CRC value of the received message and
compares it with the one in the message. A mismatch is considered a transmission error.
The initial CRC value is 0xFFFF, then the calculated 8-bit value is placed into it.
During CRC generation, every 8th bit is OR(XOR) excluded, the result is written to the low byte,
high bytes are filled with nulls. The low byte is checked, if it is equal to 1, the XOR result is written to the
register, with the previously specified value; if the low byte is 0, XOR is not used. The process is repeated 8
times. After the end of the operation with the last (eighth) bit, the next eight bits are XORed with the
previously specified register value. The final CRC value is generated when all bits of the message have been
passed.
When a CRC is attached to a message, the low byte is attached first, followed by the high byte. The CRC
procedure looks like this:
unsigned int crc_chk_value(unsigned char *data_value,unsigned char length) {

unsigned int crc_value=0xFFFF; int

i;
while(length--) {

crc_value=*data_value++;
for(i=0;i<8;i++) {

if(crc_value&0x0001) {

crc_value =(crc_value > > 1)0̂xa001;

}
else
{
crc_value=crc_value>>1;
}
}
}
return(crc_value);
}

7-5. Defining Addressing Parameters
Parameter groups and numbers are used to designate parameters. Address high byte: F0-FF(P
groups), A0-AF(C groups), 70-7F(D groups); Low Byte: 00-FF. For example, the address of parameter P3.12 is
F30C.
PLEASE NOTE: Parameter group PF cannot be read or changed via RS-485;
parameter group D can only be read. Some parameters cannot be changed while the inverter is running.
Frequent use of EEPROM leads to a decrease in its service life, therefore it is not recommended to enter data
there without the need, it is better to use RAM for temporary storage.
To gain access to parameters without saving them to EEPROM, the parameter address must be formed
correctly. To access group parameter P, replace F in the high byte of the address with 0. To access group C
parameters, replace A in the high byte of the address with 4.
Parameter P3.12 is not stored in EEPROM, its address is 030C; parameter C0.05 has address 4005. This
addressing method can only be used when working with RAM; when trying to read a value using addresses of this
format, an error will be received.

Example of setting the parameters of the frequency converter for operation using the interface
RS-485:
1) PD.00 = 0005 – RS-485 data exchange rate; default PD.00 = 0005 - 9600 bps;
2) PD.01 = 3 – data transfer format; by default PD.01 = 3 – no parity, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit;

3) PD.02 = 1 – set device address; address range from 1 to 247, 0 – broadcast data transmission;

4) PD.05 = 1 – type of communication protocol; by default, the standard ModBus protocol;

5) P0.02 = 2 - set the source of command assignment - communication protocol RS-485
6) P0.04 = 9 – set frequency reference source – RS-485 communication protocol
7) To issue a Start command, it is necessary to write the value “0001” into the register with the address 2000h (8192dec)
8) To set the speed, it is necessary to write a value from -10000 to 10000 into the register 1000h(4096dec).
This value is set as a percentage relative to the maximum output frequency set in P0.12 and P0.14.
Those.:
– When P0.12 = P0.14 = 50Hz, reference 10000 will be 100.00%, output frequency is 50Hz;
– When P0.12 = P0.14 = 50Hz, reference 5000 will be 50.00%, output frequency is 25Hz;
– When P0.12 = P0.14 = 50Hz, reference -5000 will correspond to 50.00%, the output frequency is
25Hz, but the motor will run in reverse direction;
– When P0.12 = P0.14 = 60Hz, reference 5000 will be 50.00%, output frequency is 30Hz;
9) To stop the frequency converter, it is necessary to write the value “0005” - stop by coast to register
2000h (8192dec) or “0006” - stop with deceleration in time P0.09
10) Other control commands are shown in the table describing the values of parameter 2000h

Register address 1000h allows you to read and write the frequency reference value. To set the
frequency, register 1000h must be given a value as a percentage of the maximum output frequency. For
example, for speed references of 50Hz in the forward direction, write the value "100.00". If you need to set
the rotation speed to 50Hz in the reverse direction, you must write the value "-100.00".
