Introduction:

Indian culture and movies

India is one of the earliest civilizations and the largest democracy in the
world with a population of over 1.2 billion people. People here are
segregated culturally by religion and these individual cultures unite
through festivals and celebrations like Christmas, Diwali, Holi, Eid and
so on. The culture and people are so diverse that more than the
democratic governments, the two things that unite the country are cricket
and films.

History of cinema
After the 1970's, the technological developments in the movie industry
have been very rapid. With the introduction of visual effects, video
cassettes, CDs, etc. the industry increased its popularity to a global level.
Today the visual effects in the movies have reached a whole new level
with animation movie industries using motion capture technology and
other CAD programs.

Looking at the fast-paced growth in terms of technology, the

architectural spaces need to be designed to accommodate the changing
methodology of the movie making process. In India, the next generation
filmmaking needs to be ground breaking as there are high levels of
competition on the global platform.
Film is a young medium, as compared to other forms of media
(literature, poetry, theatre or dance which have existed for thousands of
years). With a history of a bit more than hundred years, this newcomer
has evolved into an energetic and powerful art form that has enthralled
the audience.
Motion pictures have tied a knot with us in such a manner that we can
hardly think about life without it. We carry them in our bags and press
on the play button of our laptops and I pods to conjure up movies to our
pleasure. Films offer us a window to experience emotions on a
gratifying level.
What our minds hardly notice is the painstaking process of film making
and the facilities that bring a film to its fruition. My initial thought was
just that, to show the audience a glimpse of that process. Regarding
films, there are two kinds of people. First the people for whom it is all
created, for the people who enjoy the magic on the screen in front of
them. While the other set of people are the people behind the screens,
the people that create this magic. The Idea was to create such a platform
for both the audience and the artists, celebrating the magic that is
brought to us through film making. The mission of the film city is to
produce, promote and exhibit independent film and to further the skills,
talents and careers of the people devoted to the industry itself. The
industry will not only include accommodation for film production but
also exhibition spaces, cinemas, studios, offices, and recreational zone.
The overall intent is to produce an economically viable facility that
would help fund the films being produced and keep the studios and
building operable, thus being self sufficient.
PROBLEM STATEMENT:

Architecture should not just be a setting for events to take place and
space in which things happen, rather it should be a part of the
experience. How the building comes together and what it is made of, is
crucial to how the building is actually experienced.
Architecture through the use of light, space and materials must engage
the use actively to create a truly experiential space.
Hence, space must be created that inspires which allows the person to
remember and absorb. According to Briana, E. R., a former student of
New school of Architecture and Design "To experience the space in a
qualitative way, there needs to be a right amount of stimuli; too much
would create an overwhelming experience and too little will make space
perceived as dull.”
The relationship between spaces, the human figure, scale and motion
within a particular environment should provide a very fluid motion of
people within the building to create an emotional and physical reaction.

NEED FOR THE PROJECT:

Indian Film City, India produces the largest number of films annually,
the number of films made being 1500 per year on an average, which is
almost 3 times as much as the number of films made in the United
States. Yet, the reach of the film industry is limited to a very small
number.
And the one more issue which is faced by the aspiring filmmakers in
India is the lack of practical or experiential knowledge gained by
physically experiencing the process and lack of opportunities to get them
involved. Another problem is the lack spaces with the infrastructure to
equip advanced production technology so that the entire production
could take place under one single roof.

AIM:
 Creating outdoor shooting facilities
 Reduce risk and increase security of filmmakers, artists and
related to technical equipment.
 Increase the quality of the films.
 Creating indoor sets with proper technical support.
 Increasing public attraction.
 Giving a proper infrastructure for the industry.
 Put into practice the positive inferences drawn from case studies
and library studies and to keep the negative Inferences out.
 Develop a planning scheme which is simple and carefully defined
where the public, semipublic and private areas are.

OBJECTIVES:
 To achieve maximum transparency of space with
intermingling of indoor arid outdoor spaces.
 Design with combination of Natural, creative, enjoyable and
a relieving casual and professional environment.
 Create major hot-spot in the area, for Tourism and also to
bring the Hollywood along to this side.

SCOPE:
 This type of project serves Education & Tourism.
 Focus will be limited to layout the site with detail design of
various space requirements with emphasis on Film Institute and
Film Studio.
 Site area is insufficient for such a large scale project and hence
certain requirements shall be compromised, giving relevant
reasons, to result into a more functional space.

 It will provide the platform to encompass all aspects of filmmaking

- related to script, music, writing, editing and production - under
one roof
 The film city project is expected to create massive employment
opportunities for the people of Uttar Pradesh since a large number
of technicians from the state currently work in the Mumbai film
industry.

METHODOLOGY:
Literature review:
Reading of various books, articles, news, videos and thesis on related
subject from seniors will be referred so that it will provide information
and standard data for designing,
Case study:
Study of various existing film studio and space will be done so as to
know the various functions and spaced in the real life cased and help in
the design of my thesis topic Film studio
Analysis of case study:
Various aspects of case study will be compared with the standard data
those were obtained from literature so that best solution would be found
out for thesis program formulation

Program formulation:
From the analysis of both case study and literature review required
spaces and its area for the design of Film Studio will be found out and
project site will be finalized.
Site analysis:
Project site will be analyzing parameters like geology, soil, topography,
climate, manmade Structures traffic flow patterns, acoustics,
surrounding environment etc so that potential of Site can be found out
and spaces can replaced accordingly.
Design development:
After all of the process design concept will be finalized and suitable
design will be developed for Film City.

PROPOSAL:
 Film city has been proposed by the UP government in the Greater
Noida.
  The proposed Film City will be developed on 1,000 acres in
Sector 21 of the YEIDA area at the estimated cost of Rs 6,000
crore.
 It will be built on the public-private-partnership model for which
three models have been recommended by the Yamuna Authority.
 The soon-to-be-constructed Film City will have all modern world-
class amenities including residential and commercial facilities, 5-
star hotels, hi-tech studios, an amusement park, a film institute and
a museum.
 Along with Jewar International Airport, the Film City is believed
to be a dream project of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The two
projects are likely to give a big boost to the state’s economy and
the government aims to finish them before 2023.
SITE:
 A high-level team on Sunday inspected a portion of land for the
proposed Film city in Gautam Budh Nagar.
 Approximately 100 acre of land has been identified in Gautam
Budh Nagar by Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development
Authority (YEIDA) where the "Dedicated Infotainment Zone" will
be set up with all world-class civil, public and technological
facilities.
The location has been chosen as it's situated along the Yamuna
expressway and is around 6 km from to be constructed Noida
International Airport in Jewar and is well connected with the rail.
