1. First, the man received his first salary from work.

2. Next, he went shopping and spent most of his money there.
3. Then, he treated his friends to a famous restaurant and paid for everything.
4. Lastly, he noticed that he doesn’t have any money left on his wallet.

The man in the picture depicts an impulsive behavior. This leads his impulsiveness to
financial problems and regret. I personally believe that being impulsive is normal in most
people. However, this becomes insignificant or a problem when impulsive behavior is
frequent, severe, and has a negative impact on one's work, school, or social connections.
Moreover, impulsivity can affect you and people around you by making hasty decisions or
getting into arguments.

II. Reading Strategies

After reading the article, write an essay (2 paragraphs) about your unforgettable experience
at the University. What are the things you learned as a college student?

I can say that the university has given me a lot of unforgettable experiences and
memories back when I was in Senior High School, and even now that I am in college. One
experience that I will not forget is meeting amazing people at the university. I met a lot of
wonderful people personally and virtually, and I am genuinely happy that I was able to
communicate and be friends with them. I thought that making new friends will be really
difficult, especially in college and during this time of the pandemic, but I was wrong. I think
that being an extrovert also helped me build friendships easily, and actually, most of the
activities given by professors are usually by group or by pair, which allows me to meet those
people, have fun, share and discover new interests.

Furthermore, as a college student, I definitely learned the importance of learning

actively which I believe is very essential to every student’s experience because it improves
critical thinking and creative thinking. Moreover, it also increases retention and could foster
the ability to solve complex problems. Aside from that, I also learned how to manage my
time wisely. As a nursing student, there are really a lot of laboratory activities and lectures
that is needed to be done. Thus, this effective time management allowed me to submit
good quality papers on time, miss fewer deadlines and I noticed that it also decreases stress
levels.

1. In your own view, how do SQ5R reading strategies help you in developing your skills in
reading and comprehending?

The SQ5R reading strategy made me read faster, get the important points, and
memorize and familiarize information easily. The detailed step-by-step outline of each
strategy is very clear and direct that made me understood the content of the text, was able
to determine the main idea of the text easily, and get the overview of the content quickly.
This strategy allows me to become an independent learning because I exactly know what to
do first when reading and what needs to be understood in the text. It allows me to carefully
read the text, record certain information or points, recite, and review by rereading and
concluding the content of the text. This is how the SQ5R reading strategy developed and
improved my reading comprehension.

2. When do you apply Chunking for reading? Do you think it helps improve your
comprehension? Justify your answer.

Chunking can be applied to any challenging texts of any length. This strategy breaks
down challenging texts into manageable pieces. Thus, dividing the content into smaller parts
aid students in identifying key words, organize idea, and synthesize information.

By using chunking strategy, the students can get information clearly from the text by
making phrases in each sentence. This strategy encourages thinking about the group of
words rather than individual words, making a better understanding of the meaning of the
text, which I believe, enhances the overall comprehension. I think that this is because
chunking of text encourages the students to connect the underlying thought with the text as
they are reading. Aside from that, chunking also increases my reading fluency and speed
and helps me organize information to better understand the main idea of the text easily.
