Lesson 02: Levels and Functions of Organism

Lesson Objectives:
At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:
a. identify the different levels of organism;
b. explain the different levels and functions of organism;and
c. appreciate the different stages of organism by illustrating the
stages.

Readings:

Basic Functions of Organisms

1. Organization
2. Responsiveness
3. Growth and differentiation
4. Reproduction
5. Movement
6. Metabolism and excretion
7.

Levels of Organisms

1. Chemical Level: - atoms (e.g. carbon) combine to form

molecules (e.g. glucose)
2. Cellular level:
a. Smallest living units in organisms
b. Cells contain organelles, each with a function
3. Tissue level - different groups of cells that perform a
function.
