My Teacher, My Hero
“Real heroes don’t wear capes, they teach”

I was glad that I met Teacher Jiza that inspired me so much. Her encouragement and
dedication truly helped me conquer my fear, boost my confidence and discover my hidden
talent. Since in my elementary and high school whenever we celebrated English festival at
school the only activity I was joining is only verse choir. But then when I moved into senior high
level and I met this teacher with the reason and purpose. When my school (Southland College)
celebrated Cultural Fest, I joined Song N’ Yells by strand and I have this friend that joined
character impersonation and every practice that she had I always there to watched and
supported her. And when weekend came, I decided to gone home in my province. To make the
long story short, I traveled back and received a message from my friend that she can’t make it
joining character impersonation because she is tasked to join in another activity where we
didn’t have the participant to present our strand, so she told me that teachers decided that
instead of her I will be the new responsible to present our strand. I was hesitating at first,
imagine in my whole life being a student I never joined in this kind of activity even a small
background I have none and just a blinked I have been asked to do it. I have this personality
that I can’t easily say no in any opportunity that will give me. So, I stand strong and accept it, I
challenge myself to do it, 10 days of memorizing my script and preparing myself, in the end I
gain the throne, I win. I’m so very grateful to every teacher molded me to become what I am
now, I relate to this quote saying
“Don’t let anyone tell you, you can’t do it, because you can!”.

I think the qualities that belongs to an agent of change are the following:
courageous, empathetic, patient, resilient, deliberate, observant and flexible.

Courageous- Embarking on change means choosing uncertainty and discomfort. It takes

courage to break out of the norm and to speak out to people who may not want to hear the
truth, especially when they have more authority than you.
Empathetic- Agent of change must be able to put themselves in other people’s shoes to
understand their experience.

Resilient- Effective agent of change don’t take resistance personally. Instead, they bounce
back and don’t quit when they hear “no”.
Deliberate- To influence change, you must deliberately choose the words and actions that
break the patterns so change can happen.

Observant- Being an agent of change takes keen powers of observation. You watch for the
ways the status quo is subtly reinforced, and how the desired ways of working are inadvertently
discouraged. Follow observation with curiosity to find out what’s really happening.

Flexible- You must listen, learn, and adapt while still ensuring the organization is moving in
the right direction.
