 MODULE SUMMARY

Basketball is a game played on a court between two teams of five

players, the objective of which is to score a goal by tossing an inflated rubber or
leather ball through a basket set 10 feet above the floor on a backboard. The other
team attempts to prevent its opponent from scoring.

In contrast to other sports, basketball has a clear origin. It is not the evolution from
an ancient game or another sport and the inventor is well known: Dr. James Naismith.
With 13 basketball rules.

The playing court shall have a flat, hard surface free from obstructions with
dimensions of 28 m in length by 15 m in width measured from the inner edge of the
boundary line. All lines shall be drawn in white color, 5 cm in width, and clearly
visible. Also, team bench areas shall be marked outside the playing court limited by 2
lines as shown above.

Basketball provides different drills like: Footwork to develop coordination and timing;
Ball Flicking to strengthen the wrist and fingertips preparation for dribbling skills; and
Ball Movement to develop stronger hands and preparation for better passing ability.

The introduction of different basketball skills was also presented such as; Dribbling,
Passing, Shooting, and Rebounding. Different terminologies in basketball was also
exposed.

The Basic Basketball Rules Were Two teams each have up to five players on the court
at one time. Teams score by shooting the basketball through the hoop. The hoop is an
18-inch cylinder attached to the backboard and positioned 10 feet off the ground.
Each team tries to prevent their opponent from scoring by either stealing the ball or
blocking an attempted shot. The ball is moved down the court by either passing it to a
teammate or dribbling it. Check with your league for Game Duration, Size of
Basketball, and Basket Height

Violations such as Ball handling violations, Time Violations, Space lane violations, and
Fouls was also included in the discussion.

Basketball is a game of reactions. Defensive players react to what the offensive

players do, and vice versa. Coaches must recognize what the other team is doing and
counter it. For coaches and players to counter, they must be able to “read” what
their opponents do.
