Lesson 3: Grade 9 Mathematics Date
Lesson 3: Grade 9 Mathematics Date
LESSON 3
Steps
1) Multiply both sides of the equation by the variable that is in the denominator.
2) Simplify both sides of the equation.
3) Perform inverse operations to solve for the variable. (Undo what is happening to x!)
Examples:
122 $%
1). = 3, r ¹ 0. 2). = −2, 𝑥 ≠ 0
&
r
Steps:
1) Remove the brackets by multiplying/distributing.
2) Collect like terms on each side of the equation (if there are any).
3) Get "x" to one side by adding or subtracting to move all variable terms to one side of the equal sign.
4) Solve for x. Perform inverse operations following BACKWARDS BEDMAS to isolate the variable!
Examples:
1.) 2 ( c + 5) = 6 2). 7 - ( 3z - 2 ) = 14

Steps:
1) Remove the brackets by multiplying.
2) Multiply EVERY term in the equation by the LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR of the fractions.
1) Simplify both sides of the equation.
2) Get all variables to one side of the equation.
4) Once you have the variable on one side only, perform inverse operations following BACKWARDS
BEDMAS to isolate the variable!
Example:
3 6
( 2 x - 3) = ( 3x + 1)
4 5
Solve for x: 6𝑥 − 4𝑥 − 4 + 3 = 3 + 2𝑥
