sentence: “It’s not easy to deal with numbers”. It’s been the usual scenario whenever a student is encountering a math subject. Me and my friends are classmates with the strand of Accountancy Business and Management where we are taking business mathematics as one of our learning subject for the first sem. And because numbers will always be a body to us we cannot do any but to accept the fact that no matter how much we try to avoid it, it will always find its way to meet us. It’s undeniable that we often get frustrated whenever we are trying to analyze a problem with so much Xs to be found. Net profit, net income, net loss, gross profit, sales, cost of good sold and etc., they are all ABM student’s problem. Until our teacher gave a task about peer tutoring. At first it seems like it’s just an another work to be done but as we tried to do it, every member is benefited. Not only the leader is allowed to talk but everyone has the chance to say and share their insights, idea and questions. Since it is considered as a collaborative learning, we shared techniques on how to solve a problem in the most effective way that we know. And because we are friends, it’s natural that sometimes talking unnecessary things will butt in, but still it makes the learning to be smooth and fun. Solving a problem alone and trying to cope with the lesson alone are sometimes stressful. But by the help of this learning style, it is proven effective that it can obtain the main objective which is to learn and understand the lesson on a faster and better way comparing to “solo flight learning”. As someone is speaking about the things that she knows it is being embarked in her memory resulting to understanding her learnings more. And as someone is listening, the things that she hears are being added to the things that she knows and it can even answer the questions inside her mind. And because it’s open, they can freely ask all the things that aren’t clear to them. Step by step we are able to acquire the things needed to solve a problem correctly.
At first, without the peer tutoring we
can’t answer all the given problems alone and we can’t get a perfect score as well. But after the tutorial everyone is able to understand and get a high score out of the activity. According to my observation as a leader I can conclude that because they feel comfortable in receiving instructions as well as giving their own insights about the topic, it is easy for them to discern and digest each step on solving a problem without even memorizing the formula but rather practicing on how to get the x variable in a natural way using their own understanding. Peer tutoring can make us students to deal with numbers comfortably with perseverance to answer even a single mathematical problem.
