 This particular module in our degree has honestly been very challenging for me
personally. Saying that, I have learned that it was in fact necessary for our growth and
guided us towards true meaning of research. This research paper was basically an extended
and more detailed version of a paper we did in Research Method in Business (RMB) in the
past semester. RMB module acted like a beginner’s guide towards generating a genuine
research paper. In that module, we learned the basic aspects that are required in a research
paper but mainly our focus was methodology. RMB taught us that every time we conduct a
research we have to dive in to the deep of any topic to be able to thoroughly analyze it and
based on the literature and previous papers studied, only then we could come up with
critical evaluation of what we really think or believe. We were also introduced to research
paradigms where we acquired knowledge about how there can be different perspectives
about a given subject and that would frame what he view of our research paper would be
like. Too ease on all the loaded information, we had the chance to focus on only one
approach in the previous paper which was quantitative approach. This was because
teachings from our other module Business Decision Makin (BDM) was fresh in mind. We had
just picked up on learning how to use the SPSS software so combining that knowledge in a
real-life scenario or question of our research paper was leveling up our writing and
knowledge. We were aware that even after the completion of RMB module, we had a long
way to go before our final year dissertation. Introductory Business Research Project gave us
continuity to what we started in RMB and what was left to be done in that proposal to turn
it into a paper.

IBRP will act as a guiding light for our thesis in our final year which is why all the skills
that developed among us whether it was individual, academic or team work are essential for
future projects. Our group chose the topic ‘the effect of HRM policies on banking sector in
Nepal’ knowing that there were very few papers to study on this and almost no research
done about this topic in Nepal. Doing this proposal twice has made me realize how
important it is to have factual and sourced knowledge which applies in real life too. After
completion of this paper, I feel confident, proud and eager to learn more about what our
final year has to offer. It goes without saying that now we all know it is crucial to have a very
specific topic before we start writing a paper on it. This part was stressed in RMB and after
accomplishing the IBRP paper, I finally understand why a very specific topic was
emphasized. We were able to explore qualitative approach in this module which was
actually very fun. Developing the questionnaire for quantitative approach as a group made
me realize the how different outlooks or different minds working towards a same goal can
be so insightful, diverse and innovative. About having to do everything online due to COVID-
19, I feel like as a group we really did our best in the process of data collection. From one
perspective, it was actually time-saving but when it comes to interviews and field visits, that
is something I look forward to do in our next paper. A new thing I learned was research
papers also require ethical consideration section which is something I value and appreciate.
My precious experience during the formation of this paper was playing the role of
interviewer as that is something I have always dreamed about and this paper helped my
dream turn into reality even though it was just a start.

I am nothing but thankful for these modules to help me build confidence so that I
feel prepared to take my final year dissertation. I am not sure whether we get to pick our
own topic or get assigned something, but I feel excited to have my individual work out there
in the world. After doing this paper twice, I have realized that research papers or mainly
thesis is somewhat of an individual’s contribution of the whole humanity and it definitely
has an impact even though its small. It is just a start or first step towards the path of
discovery and IBRP module has made realize that.
