Avoid software locking in central systems

Concerns:
All ECU:s

Problem:
The software is locked in central system.
Fault 31851 occurs when a campaign programming failed after the software is
downloaded. If the user exits the operation and retries, the error message below is shown.

T0014893

Reason:
When a user downloads a software in VCADS Pro, the software is being locked in
Volvo’s central systems. This means that no other user can perform any changes to a
specific ECU until the first user has reported the updates/changes. The locking is done
to keep correct information about the vehicle in Volvo’s central systems to ensure that
the correct software can be supplied every to vehicle.

Action:
General steps that should be taken to minimize software locks.

1. If you are campaign-programming in normal mode (non intermediate storage mode)

and the programming fails, do not exit the operation (see picture).

Check your wiring and switch off the ignition for 30 seconds and switch on the ignition
again. If you are sure that everything is OK and you have tested a couple of times, there is
a chance that the ECU software is faulty and you have to call VAS for further assistance.

2. If the software has been locked by another user (error 31852). Check that if you have
this software on any other of your computers that have VCADS installed. If so, use
this computer to perform the programming or report the software as not programmed.

3. If you use intermediate storage and download the software too much in advance, you
might miss important updates and lock the software for other users.

4. To avoid getting the software locked if your programming fails, run the campaign
programming in Intermediate storage mode. This should be done in the following
steps in VCADS:
4.1 Enter Intermediate storage mode
4.2 Download in Administrate software dialog
4.3 Make sure that intermediate storage is active before you start programming. Can
be done by checking if there is a square around the intermediate storage icon (see
picture). Then start to program.
