According to official data from the Civil Emergency Agency, the fires had spread from north
to south, including forests, pastures and private property in 13 districts: Shkodra, Lezha,
Puka, Elbasan, Fier, Skrapar, Durres, Tirana, Vlora, Gjirokastra, Përmet and Saranda where 9
fires were active. Hundreds of hectares of forests, pastures and thousands of olive roots had
been destroyed in Vlora and Fier. Residents of 3 villages in the Drino River valley in
Gjirokastra had been evacuated by Police and Army forces. There were 521 military forces
at the scene, dozens from the local government as fire and civil emergency forces, 50
vehicles. Work was underway to extinguish the flames from the air with FA helicopters and
contracted.
Meanwhile Albanian Government had required help from EU Civil Protection Mechanism.
Albanian Red Cross was following very closely the situation mostly through RC branches in
affected areas. Also they raised
awareness through social media
(FB, Instagram, Website etc) for
preventing dangerous behaviors
(mentioned above) and also had
avoided going out during the high
temperatures. For several days,
the operational forces, effectives
of the Army, firefighters, civil
emergency troups and local
services had been working to
extinguish fires in various areas of the country. After days of uninterrupted work, the fires
had been extinguished.
About 1500 inhabitants have remained isolated as from all this flood occur and other
damages the bridge of Kalivaç was destroyed.
Meanwhile around 4,080 hectares of land is under water in Shkodër County. On 08 January,
MoD reported that 75 residents of Ana e Malit were evacuated. Landslides were also
reported in the county, causing damage to homes in Pukë district.
