ACTIVITY 1:

I. Directions: Read and explain the following quotations.

1. “The common facts of today are the products of yesterday’s research”
-Duncan MacDonald

- It means that things that are today regarded as common knowledge were once unknown.
They became known as the fruits of research. The implication is that things that are unknown
today will become known as a result of ongoing research: through research we can continue
rolling back the boundary of the unknown and extending the territory of the known.
It is, possibly, part of an argument in favour of continuing to fund essential research.

2. “Research means that you don’t know, but are willing to find out”
-Charles F. Kettering
- It means precisely that.
Let’s take covid-19 as an example, since it’s all just about everyone’s been talking about for
most of the year.
When the virus was first identified, specialists in viruses were able to look at it and think “How
would we create a vaccine against this thing?” They didn’t know that this or that approach
would work, but they were going to start researching to see if it did work.
As we know, there are now a few potential vaccines being tested. It looks as though they might
fit the bill, but we’re still waiting on the conclusion of the research to tell us.

II. Directions: Express your judgement or decision about each item by checking the box
representing your choice. Write your reasons to justify your agreement or disagreement
on the given statement.

1. Researchers must have control over his/her economic resources. He/she has to keep the
finances within limits and spend it carefully.
Agree Disagree /

Reasons/justification: I agree, For the same reason everyone else needs to keep their
spending under control: they go broke if they don’t.

2. Researchers should be able to utilize his/her time properly in a balanced manner.

Agree Disagree /

Reasons/justification: Well I agree for this, because everybody should balance their time
spending to the research.
3. Researchers must cautiously bear in mind that there is no short cut to truth.
Agree Disagree /

Reasons/justification: I agree, because it takes time before you get to the truth.

Research for Daily life

We must need to know about research, because through this we can better to know how
important it is. The purpose of research is to inform action. Thus, your study should seek to
contextualize its findings within the larger body of research. Research must always be high
quality in order to produce knowledge that is applicable outside of the research setting with
implications that go beyond the group that has participated in the research. Furthermore, the
results of your study should have implications for policy and project implementation.

Research is to learn more about a topic relevant to the course and write down what you have
learned in an organized, readable fashion. Doing a research paper involves reading what
scholars and critics have had to say about a particular topic and evaluating it. Unlike a book
report, it does not involve primarily reading a work and giving your own opinion of it. It does
involve learning how to read criticism (scholarly analyses) and related sorts of scholarship such
as literary, art, or music history and biography. Of course, you will want to read, view, or listen
to the works which are the focus of your topic.

IV. Directions: Interview a classmate or a friend about how research played a major role in
their chosen track/strand and the importance of research in their daily life. Make a report
about it. Write your report using a narrative format. Make use of the notes you wrote
down before and after you conducted the interview.
