The Old Colonel

I think I have had a very interesting life. I'm 73 now and I don't want to work anymore. I have been
in the army my whole life, 51 years. I have been to so many countries that I can't remember all of
them. I've been to Australia six or seven times and to South Africa three times. I have also been to
Russia but I didn't like it at all: much too cold for me!

They say that love is the greatest thing and I agree. I've been married four times but never for more
than five years. I don't think women really understand me!

I've never been on television, but I've been on the radio once. It was a programme about life in the
military about twenty years ago. I met the Prime Minister on the same day. Actually, I've met a lot of
famous people: members of the royal family, famous politicians and also famous cinema and television
personalities. I've never met the American President though which is a pity.
Because I've travelled a lot, I've seen a lot of wonderful things and have also eaten and drunk some
strange foods and drinks. I ate cat and rat in India and drank something called Mirto on a little island
in Italy.

In order to ask the questions, use the verb in brackets for present perfect. Remember to use
the interrogative structures for this part!

a) What __has__ he _done_ along his life? (do)

a. He has worked in the army.
b) How long _has_ he __been__ in the army? (be)
a. For 51 years.
c) How many times __has___ he ___gone__ to Australia? (go)
a. Six or seven times.
d) _Has_ he _liked___ visiting Russia? (like)
a. No, it is too cold and he hates it.
e) Why __has__ he __gotten__ married so many times? (get)
a. Because women don't understand him.
f) Has he ever _been__ on the radio? (be)
a. Yes, he has. But never on TV.
g) How many times _has_ he _seen___ the prime minister? (see)
a. Once, when he was on the radio.
h) _Has__ he __met__ the American president? (meet)
a. No, he hasn't but he wants to.
i) Where _has_ he_eaten_ cat and rat? (eat)
a. He has done it in his trips to India.
j) Where __has __he _drunk__Mirto? (drink)
He has done it in his trips to Italy.

nature, science, education, transport, fashion, architecture... (you can choose the topic(s)
of your preference).

Important
 Use the structures of present perfect in order to talk about meaningful changes in life. You
can talk about:
How has your city changed through time?
How you have changed through time, for example, how has your ideology changed
through time? What did you use to think about life and what do you think about life now?
 Don’t forget to include punctuation marks .
 The text must have 450 words in total.
 Write the text in the following space. Include pictures in your text (Keep the same font
and size in the text).

Changes in life

Hello, I´m Christian. I have borned in Tunja, Boyaca in 1999, and I live in San Andres
Island in Caribbean Sea. Tunja the noble and hidalga and San Andres the island of the
sea of seven colors, I have loved them both, the ying and yang need to balance.

I have lived eleven years in San Andres and the other eleven years I have live in Tunja; in
the other hand all of my life I have experimented a lot of meaningful changes, this has a
reason, and I have spent so much time to find the answer. And finally, I have found that
answer, it turns out that my family have had a long history, my mother´s family are from
Santuario, Risaralda and San Andres, and my father´s family are from Duitama, Boyacá.

This has caused me to have been traveling between the mountains and the sea, an
interesting mix that has experienced hot and cold, fish and beef, African men and
Indigenous men. 😊 I just want to work hard and finish my career like my ancestors have
done, to keep travel around the world, share with my family, go to the beach with my
dog´s Laika and Sukha and rock with my girlfriend.

I have practiced some sports, such as free diving I have a lot of fun lol… swimming like a
fish I have felt a bit of true freedom, it´s like flying… diving under water and holding your
breath to go down to the deepest and go up with incredible speed. It´s amazing. Another
sport I have practiced Is Taekwondo, whose principles have helped me in life since I was
a child until today. Courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomable spirit,
these are the beginnings of taekwondo, a South Korean martial art that has been with
humanity since 50 AC. I have hoped that everyone can practice taekwondo to have a
healthy life, a healthy body, a healthy mind and a peaceful soul.

Otherwise, I have loved freedom, justice, life, nature, people, sharing, music, union,
resilience, patience, knowledge, wisdom and they will always be my ideals. In our
country Colombia we have needed a consolidated democracy that can generate great
meaningful changes that have an impact on young people and society. The war we have
been in for over 50 years must end and we must learn to live in peace and make
meaningful changes.
