Quezon City

Features / Description:

Quezon City is known for its culture, entertainment industry and media, and is
aptly called the "City of Stars". Major broadcasting networks have their headquarters
and studios in the city. It is also known for its commerce, education, research,
technology, politics, tourism, art and sports.

Top 2-3 existing problems:

1. Problem: Pollution
Cause: The population of the city
Effect: Uncontrolled waste management
Solution: Implement trainings/seminars on the influence of good driving behavior
and correct engine maintenance, which will result in lower emissions, lower
maintenance costs, and increased fuel savings in conformity with the Clean Air
Act. More work should be done on city ordinances that promote clean air and
anti-pollution initiatives. The QC local government has previously implemented
"QC's Clean Air Initiatives," which was launched in July 2011 in collaboration with
MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino. Smoke belchers should face stiffer
penalties. To encourage cycling, more cycle lanes should be installed around the
city. Encourage the use of environmentally friendly alternatives such as electric
cars or anything else that reduces harmful emissions.

2. Problem: Heavy traffic

Cause: Drivers and Commuters
Effect: Can result to being late at school and work
Solution: Enforce traffic-calming measures such as speed limits.
Commonwealth Avenue currently has a 60 KPH speed restriction in place for all
vehicles. Increase the number of traffic police on the lookout for speeding
motorists. To prevent occupying lanes that are meant for automobiles, traffic
enforcers must be on the side of the road rather than in the middle. More cycle
lanes should be installed throughout the city, not simply on key thoroughfares.
Increase the number of towing zones to reduce the number of cars parked in
inconvenient locations that cause traffic congestion. To reduce the number of
cars on the road, hold seminars to urge citizens to walk or take public
transportation.

3. Problem: Flooding
Cause: Waste management issues
Effect: Damages of infrastractures and public properties
Solution: Dredging and de-clogging of waterways, especially in flood-prone
locations, to improve the city's river and drainage systems and reduce property
damage. Encourage every household to inspect the drainage system on their
property. Flood barriers should be installed in flood-prone locations such as
rivers and streams. Set out ditches or notches to redirect flood water towards
open ground or rivers as part of a natural flood protection plan. Encourage the
implementation of tree-planting schemes that will aid in the reduction of flooding.

geographically small but very big in terms of cultural significance, social
prominence, economic progress and tourism potentials.
