Global Warming
The impact of global warming on human life and the environment is not a myth. These impacts have
occurred, affect us everyday, whether we realize it or not. The various consequences of global
warming are negative and counter-productive to humans and the biodiversity on earth.

List of global warming impacts

1. The impact of global warming that is quite often publicized is the melting of glaciers: Melting
glaciers will create many problems for humans and animals living on earth. One of them is sea
level rise. As global warming increases, sea levels will rise, potentially causing flooding.
2. The second result of global warming is climate change. Irregular weather patterns have begun to
show the effects of global warming. Increased rainfall in the form of rain has been noted in arctic
regions and deserts. Increased global warming will cause more evaporation which will cause
more rain. Animals and plants cannot easily adapt to increased rainfall. Plants can die and
animals can migrate to other areas. This can cause the entire ecosystem to change completely
and rapidly. Beyond human ability to adapt.
3. Increasing and increasing drought. Although there may be rain and flooding in Savannah, severe
droughts occur in other parts of the world. As temperatures warm, the presence of drought has
increased in the western United States. Drought also causes forest fires in Indonesia. Large-
scale evaporation is the main cause of drought in many places, especially Africa. Drought that
has the potential to cause crop failure can lead to malnutrition.
4. Widespread disease. As Earth’s temperatures become warmer, this can affect human health and
the spread of the diseases they face. With increased rainfall, water-borne diseases tend to spread,
such as malaria.
5. Increased storm frequency. As ocean temperatures rise, hurricanes and other storms tend to get
stronger. As global warming increases, the water in the ocean heats up which heats the
surrounding air, creating hurricanes.
6. Rising sea level. Melting polar ice and reduced water evaporating into the atmosphere causes sea
levels to rise. Nearby coastal cities and towns near the US east coast, the Pacific islands, the Gulf
of Mexico are just some of the areas where flood damage is beginning to submerge some of it.
7. Global warming can affect agriculture. When global temperatures will increase, plants will find
it more difficult to survive and will die. Plants are the main source of food for humans and as a
result lack of food can occur. Food shortages can lead to wars and conflicts in several countries.
8. The next impact of global warming is the occurrence of forest fires. Although forest fires are a
natural occurrence, increasing amounts of carbon dioxide in the air, and hotter summers, make
forest fires easier and more frequent. Forest fires are more frequent and continue to occur in
large numbers every year, such as in Indonesia, Australia and America. Its burning rate is longer
than the last, and with the release of carbon dioxide into the air, not only is people’s lives in
danger, but wildlife is suffering greatly. Each time a fire burns, less oxygen is there to counter
the harmful amounts of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere.
9. Damage to marine ecosystems. The condition of the world’s coral reefs continues to decrease
and be damaged due to global warming. Once coral reefs are affected, entire developing
ecosystems become obsolete, including a decline in the fisheries sector.

THE INDONESIAN RED CROSS (PMI)

The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) is a national association organization in Indonesia which is engaged
in the social humanity sector PMI always has seven basic principles of the International Red Cross
and Red Crescent Movement, namely humanity, equality, volunteerism, independence, unity,
neutrality and universality. Until now, PMI has been in 34 PMI Regions (provincial level) and around
408 PMI Branches (city / regency level) throughout Iindonesia.

The Indonesian Red Cross does not take sides with certain political, racial, ethnic or religious groups.
In its implementation, the Indonesian Red Cross also does not make distinctions but prioritizes
victims who most need immediate help for the safety of their souls.

In various PMI activities, commitment to humanity such as the 2010 Strategy contains improving the
lives of vulnerable communities through the promotion of the principles of human values, disaster
management, disaster management preparedness, health and care in the community, the Hanoi
Declaration (United for Action) contains program handling on issues disaster management,
prevention of disease outbreaks, youth and the elderly, partnerships with government, organizations
and resource capacity management as well as public relations and promotion, as well as the Plan of
Action are the decisions of the 27th Red Cross and Red Crescent Conference in Geneva, Switzerland
in 1999.

In the conference, the Indonesian Government and PMI as participants stated their pledge in the
humanitarian ssector. This is very much in line with PMI's main task of assisting the Indonesian
government in the social and humanitarian sector, especially the tasks of kepalangmerahan which
include: Disaster Relief and Aid Preparedness, First Aid Training for Volunteers, Health and
Community Welfare Services, Blood Transfusion Services. PMI's performance in the field of
humanity and volunteerism from 1945 to the present are as follows:

1. Help when war / conflict occurs. Humanitarian tasks carried out by PMI during the
Indonesian independence war, during the RMS rebellion, the Aru incident, during the regional
correction movement through PRRI in West Sumatra, during Trikora in Irian Jaya, East
Timor with humanitarian operations in Dilli, refugees on Galang Island.
2. Helping victims of natural disasters All of this is done by the ranks of PMI for the sake of
humanity and a sincere spirit of volunteering to help victims with various activities ranging
from relief and evacuation, search, health services and medical teams, provision of public
kitchens, field hospitals, provision of basic food packages, appropriate clothing wear and so
on.
3. Blood transfusion and health. In 1978 PMI awarded the Gold Pin for the first time to 75
voluntary blood donors. Based on Government Regulation No. 18/1980, the duties and roles
of PMI in blood transfusion services have been regulated. The existence of the PMI Blood
Transfusion Unit is recognized to have provided many benefits and assistance for patients /
sick sufferers who desperately need blood. Thousands or even millions of people have been
saved thanks to the help of the PMI Blood Transfusion Unit. Likewise with health services,
almost every PMI in various regions has a polyclinic.
