Assignment 1
CS 111
I. Introduction
Crop production statistics is one of the important considerations in assessing the supply
and demand curve in a crop production industry. This is how a certain region adapts to the
environmental conditions concerning the market demand of the specified agricultural
commodity.
The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) provides reliable data on the yield and Philippines
Area Planted of specific crops by region. There is a region that results in higher yield among
other regions, but the least in terms of area in hectares planted. Due to environmental factors,
which may be biotic or abiotic, a certain region has issues and problems on the productions
of the agricultural commodity. Probably, these factors could bend down the trends in
production.
II. Objectives
At the end of the exercise, the students should be able to:
1. Identify the main crops planted in the different regions in the Philippines
2. Explain the contribution of crop production to the economic growth of the region
3. Develop an understanding of crop adaptability in various environmental
conditions
III. Materials
1. Activity Sheet
2. Internet/Cellphone
Example:
Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR)
a. Major Crops Planted: Cabbage
b. Crop Yield (MT): 100.50
c. Philippines Area Planted (ha): 7,850 Hectares
d. Highlights/status: The 2019 country's total output recorded that Cordillera
Administrative Region (CAR) is the leading producer of cabbage, sharing
78.5% of the country's cabbage total production of 128.05 thousand metric
tons.
V. Conclusion
Agriculture is significant to all regions in Philippines, it gives opportunities to all farmers because
its environment is generally favorable to cultivation of broad range of crops and exports. In the
medium term, the agriculture sectors will seek to expand economic opportunities for those who
are currently engaged in producing agricultural products, and increase access to economic
opportunities for farmers in all region. Despite somewhat bettering its performance in 2018,
Philippine agriculture remained a drag on an otherwise strong economy in 2019. During the
second quarter of 2019, crop production dropped by 5.70%. It accounted for 47.42% of total
agricultural output. Production of palay and fell by 5.82% and 8.73% respectively. Onion, garlic
mango, rubber, pineapple, banana, cassava, and abaca all saw increases in output.
