(5 minutes) Mini-lesson: Look up *insert country* on computers/laptops and find the continent, capital, and 3 other interesting facts about the country. Discuss the interesting facts the students found. Discuss the countries religion, and background of population. (20 min) Independent Practice: Handout - includes a reading on the country with information about the population of people, and the cultures commonly practiced. Handout will end with comprehension questions, as well as questions that compare and contrast the culture and facts of the new country, with the United States. (10 minutes) Exit Slip: Quizlet on information just learned about the country. Questions such as size, language spoken, etc. (10 minutes)
4. All Resources: See Reference Page Below
5. Reflection: Evaluate your multicultural lesson activity. What specific subject concepts, skills were taught.? o Students were taught geography and use of map when locating the country in question. o Students were also taught facts of the country, and learned information about another culture/way of life. What specific multicultural knowledge, skills were achieved? o Students learned the different cultures and ways of another country and compared them to our own in the United States. Students learned to embrace the differences in other countries and their backgrounds. List the strengths and weaknesses of the lesson plan o The strengths include collaboration and teamwork as the students discuss the things they learned about this country with their peers. o Another strength is shining light on another culture and way of life different than that of our own country, yet comparing to see what we have in similar, and contrasting things we do different to show students multiple ways is accepted. o Weaknesses of the lesson plan would be time. I feel the lesson may be slightly rushed and more time may be needed. o Another weakness includes no hands on activities, I fear the students may want something with more excitement and movement into the lesson.
