Abstract

Covid-19 pandemic has changed social life orders radically. This changing orders also gives
impact on world of literature, discussion activities, and literary or drama performances are
made virtually. During the pandemic time , however, discussions on literary issues which are
made virtually have passed beyond the geographic boundaries .The discussion participants
coming from many areas in the same country and even from abroad can interact easily.
However, it is not easy when it deals with drama performances on stage. Drama
performances in virtual form have minimized the magic of literature Virtual form in drama
performances cannot present the context and the lively taste of drama performances on stage.
The audience cannot get lost and touched when they watch the virtual drama performances in
virtual form. For this reason, during the pandemic and in the future, literary activities need to
be properly sorted. Activities such as literary discussions can be done virtually, otherwise
literary or drama performances should still be carried out directly.

Social change, Machiavelli and establishing a new order of things: The role of literature
in creating a new culture for our times

A brief glance at the history of Indonesian literature illustrates how social change is usually
accompanied by a new wave of literary production that stands distinct from previous works.
In this keynote we will examine the economic causes of this renewal, based on earlier
examples, and speculate on the emerging pandemic literature.

Socio-economic change demands interpretation and expression

Machiavelli and a new order of things

There is nothing more difficult to take in hand, more perilous to conduct, or more uncertain
in its success, than to take the lead in the introduction of a new order of things, because the
innovator has for enemies all those who have done well under the old conditions, and

Abstract

In this presentation, I will consider the effects of pandemic and post-pandemic (language)
education from the perspective of Japanese language education and linguistics. First, I will
provide an overview of the covid-19 pandemic situation in Japan and report that many
international students who wish to study in Japan have not been able to enter the country.
Under these circumstances, Okayama University has been conducting online events as part of
its international exchange efforts. In particular, the university's OJEIC and the Faculty of
Letters have taken the lead in organizing several events for exchange with Southeast Asian
countries. I will report on this and show that the students' satisfaction was very high. Next, I
will discuss the changes that occurred in the students in the online classes. First, we will look
at the situation of first-year and second-year students, and then we will discuss the situation
and changes of international students. In the final section, I will present the characteristics of
the analysis of online conversations and talk about what we should be aware of in online
communication, which will continue in the future.

Abstract
China and Japan are close neighbors who share a history of mutual-communication during 2
thousand years. These two countries are both significant to east Asia. Nowadays Japanese
Education in China has become more and more popular since the Japanese learning boom
brought by the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan in 1972. The
advanced study class for Chinese teachers who major in Japanese was held by the Ministry
of Education of the People's Republic of China and the Japan Foundation in 1980, then
Beijing Center for Japanese Studies was set up in 1985. According to the data from Survey
Report on Japanese-Language Education Abroad since 1974, the numbers of Japanese
educational agency, teachers who major in Japanese and Japanese learners are all raising.
This paper intends to investigate the present status and prospect of Japanese education in
China based on the numbers above.

Abstract

Almost eight years have passed and the resonance of the Proclamation of Bahasa
Indonesia as an International Language is still faintly, though it is believed as mandated in the
Proclamation of Language - KBI X itself, all goes naturally towards an objective that is not
exactly also said goal because the goal has been achieved and together with that purpose, all
goes now. The following short paper attempts to record all the backgrounds of the simple
events underlying the Proclamation of Indonesian as the International Language, which
digital version is uploaded through Facebook, while the written version is printed in the
Tribunnews published in East Kalimantan. What is more important is the future of the hope
that is placed on the shoulders of the speakers. It is also a strong hope that all Indonesian
speakers who have to deliver a speech or read an academic paper in a foreign land will be
encouraged to use Indonesian as the first priority.

Abstract

This study deals with the similarities and differences of the regional language lexicon in
Surabaya and the regional language in Indramayu. The reason for this research is that the two
regional languages above have structure, use of lexicon and their meaning in Indonesian. The
theory used in the data analysis is contrastive linguistic theory (Santoso, 2015: 19-20) with
the aim of identifying similarities and differences between the two lexicons with the benefit
of adding insight between the two regional languages. This research method uses qualitative
research methods with research results in the form of similarities in the structure of the
lexicon and its meaning found in the words tangi 'wake up', adus 'mandi', endog 'egg', sarapan
'breakfast', pamit 'goodbye' and some other words in the table 1 and 3. Second, the lexicon
structure and its use which refer to the same meaning are found in the words sak bendino-
nggal dina „every day‟, isuk-esuk „morning‟, iwak‟e-lauk‟e „side dishes‟, tempe-oncom
„fermented soybeans‟, numpak-nganggo/nunggang „going by using tranpsotation vehicle‟ and
several other vocabularies in table 2. Furthermore, differences are found in several lexicon in
table 4 whose lexicon structure is the same as words wareg, mlebu, gombal, mblenger and
bengen, but the meaning of the words are different from the Indonesian Language.

Abstract

We know that expression or opinion through the media is a public discourse. This
public discourse is massive along with the development of new media through the internet.
With the convenience associated with technological developments, this public opinion has
become widespread and has a digital footprint. This phenomenon is now called big data.
Because of its convenience, people comment and express their opinions through social media.
They can comment anything via twitter, youtube, facebook, instagram, telegram, whatsapp.
In terms of language, this is a form of using language in expressing opinions. People argue
about the ongoing political process or issue. As consumers, they comment on the products
they use. Of course, the interests related to social and cultural affiliation cannot be separated
from the public's attention.
With the ability of artificial intelligence to recognize words, data mining can be
done in this case for research purposes in terms of data analysis. Likewise with natural
language process, the corpus as a source of data analysis can be defined and described, the
taxonomy of words can then be determined. While the 'N-gram model' is used to predict the
use of words in a sentence. This paper will discuss the possibility of data analysis to be used
in reading the phenomenon of massive messages. That one can relate to public opinion on
policy or other political issues. For marketing communications related to opinions about
products, production processes or institutional image. Of course, many cultural issues are
commented on in public discourse. And this is very interesting because researchers can better
understand how the issue is described in public discourse. Because public discourse is
basically the use of language to express anything in the public sphere. We try to discuss the
possibilities in analyzing the phenomena of this massive message.

Abstract

The widening aspects of literary criticism have brought in insights of cultural studies. One
main idea of that discipline is about social alienation in society. Raoul Vaneigem emphasizes
how individuals may be trapped in social alienation due to conscious constrains that shapes
such despair to the condition of disorder. People tend to experience suffering as they could
not move forward by not understanding the obstacles, even thinking about those is reflection
of alienation in the process. Before the Law is one interesting short story written by Franz
Kafka that tells a person who seeks knowledge but being restrained by the guardian or
gatekeeper of the law. This story is full of parables that its meanings are not easily grasped
through usual concepts. Then, the question is; how is suffering from alienation be reflected in
Franz Kafka‟s Before the Law? By using qualitative method, cultural concepts are used to
explain the correlations between Kafka‟s story and Vaneigem‟s perspectives. The man in the
story experiences such alienation from the gatekeeper as he suffers inability to enter and meet
the law. He is enslaved by the language of the gatekeeper. The guardian‟s language is
impenetrable by him. His meanings are out of sense beside merely left with anxiety of being
secluded. He seems to have right but he is not rightful at all. In conclusion, the story of
Kafka‟s matches with Vaneigem‟s perspective. The man who would like to enter the gate is
familiar to the law but is foreign to the language of gatekeeper. His relations to others are
unknown unless being alienated socially and individually.

THE AMBIGUOUS LANGUAGE OF HUMAN RIGHTS AS REFLECTED IN

E-mail: rommelpasopati@yahoo.com

Abstract

William Faulkner‟s short story entitled Dry September tells about how black people live
under suspicions from white people. Black people has their own rights since it is embraced as
natural statuses. White people also has the rights by living cultural sides of the society. The
question then, how is the posture of human right be reflected in Faulkner‟s story? By using
qualitative method, the analysis of this paper underlines the realities of both restrictions and
limitations shown in the foundation of human rights. Those rights are never unlimited but
situated through both people and society. Its languages are ambiguous since it contains
various and abundant possibilities to be understood furthermore. Matters of justice and
freedom are both directly and indirectly attached to wide aspects of human rights as seen in
Syracuse Principles. While human rights are considered universal, its main conditions will
never escape realities of particularities in real world. In conclusion, Faulkner‟s story is one
great example of ambiguous language of human rights. The rights of the people are not static
at all, but may involve relativity dynamicity of how individuals interpret society and in
reverse as well.

Abstract

Oral literature/folk literature is a culture that grows and kept by people for generations and
spreads orally/through words of mouth. The diversity of folk literature in Toyomarto needs to
be acknowledged and explored. One of which is a folklore about Taman Kasurangganan or
“Garden of Heaven” (nimfa) that is believed to be Putri Singowati‟s and Resi Patmoaji‟s
place to do the ritual of moksha. Tirta Amerta is a source of holy water that becomes a source
of altercation within the Gods and the Giants. This water is believed to have a miracle on its
own where whoever drinks it, will be spared from bad lucks or death. This folklore has
potential to be an intangible cultural asset. Therefore, transformation of oral literature is
needed, in this case, in a form of a comic book. Comic book is chosen because it is accessible
and can be enjoyed by everyone from teenagers to adults. It is hoped by the transformation of
oral literature to comic books can deliver the implicit meanings or messages in the story.

stage. Unlike other performing arts, Rakugo is a performing art that does not require a lot of
costumes and stage equipments. Rakugo storytellers use gestures and voice changes to
portray the various characters and roles in the story. The depiction of cultural diversity,
manners and beliefs using the medium of modern literary works in the form of anime is very
great, not only adding to the value of the beauty of the work but it is also used as an
educational medium. So that, it can continue to preserve culture and introduce it to other

Abstract

This article studies the factors and impacts of social changes in Masashi Kishimoto‟s comic
Naruto in volumes 50 to 72. Naruto comics describe the lives of ninjas in Konoha and other
villages. This study uses a qualitative method with descriptive analysis. In this study, it is
formulated about: 1) the causes of the shinobi world war and 2) the impact of the fourth
shinobi world war in Naruto comics. In this study, Abdulsyani and Basrowi's sociological
theory of change is used, and Martono's positive impact theory and Sumartono's negative
impact theory. From the formulation of the problem, it can be concluded: 1) the factors that
cause social changes in the Naruto comics are factors from within the community and factors
from outside the community. The most significant factor is the influence of other people's
cultures; 2) The positive impacts of social change include the development of technology
which is marked by Naruto using a laptop while serving as Hokage, increasing social
integration which is marked by mutual trust after hearing Gaara's words, health technology
with the use of a wheelchair by Gai, social mobility marked by peace society of the Shinobi
Alliance, and the development of a mindset when people prefer to use communication tools
to convey information rather than through animals. The negative impacts of social changes
contained in Naruto comics include upheaval and rebellion; protests and demonstrations;
crime; and juvenile delinquency. The negative impacts that cannot be found are corruption,
collusion and nepotism.

Abstract

Teeuw (2004) mentions that literary works, at a certain point, can be considered as a social
documentation for society. This can and may happen because in a literary work, there is no
clear boundary at which point the fiction begins, and at which point the reality takes part.
Laut Bercerita, as a historical novel, presents the background of an event which for the
majority of Indonesian people is the beginning of the end of the New Order government
under President Soeharto. In the context of maintaining the stability of its power, a
government must have two main instruments, namely domination to subdue, and hegemony
to bring order. On the instrument of hegemony, the government will act subtly through
various cultural instruments, ranging from the monopoly of the mass media, rewriting
history, learning in schools according to the will of the authorities, even entering all forms of
institutions of other people's lives. Based on such historical facts and data, Laut Bercerita
lives the lives of the fictional characters in it more or less with the same situation and
conditions. In this study, the author will present several facts-based findings related to forms
of resistance as a form of counter-hegemony carried out by organic groups to fight
hegemonic efforts by the government as the holder of power.

Abstract

As we all know, the Covid-19 Pandemic is currently ravaging the world. Due to social
separation to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus, several activities have been restricted.
The teaching-learning process, on the other hand, must continue for students and teachers.
Holding teaching and learning activities online is one approach to keep them going. In order
for students to keep on going active, a method of active learning is used in the process of
studying. This study describes the difficulties that a teacher experiences when using active
learning methods in Japanese online class. This research employed a qualitative approach.
The participants in this study were six children from the Al-Ihsan Orphanage. Much
experience was gained from teaching using the active learning method, with one of the
teachers learning to create materials that can stimulate student activity to play an active role
in learning by creating appealing and understandable PowerPoint slides, then inviting
students to discuss the material. As a result, students are more eager to share their thoughts,
and the information being taught is better grasped.

Abstract

Recently, a number of top institutes and universities in Indonesia, both state and private,
offer international classes - class with English as the language of instruction - to local and
overseas students in order to upgrade their status as an Indonesian university with
international standard. This article aims to share the experience of the writers in designing
the English language training program as parts of the recruitment of lecturers to teach the
international class or Z class as it is called at University of Surabaya. Adopting the ADDIE
model of instructional design, the process started from analyzing and identifying the
problems of the lecturers in speaking. Then, it was followed with the selection, design and
development of materials. The output was a syllabus/course oultine. In the phase of
implementation, there was a teaching simulation with strict evaluation by the trainers on the
trainees‟ performance. The last phase was a report to the university about lecturers who
had fulfilled the minimum standard of English proficiency to teach the Z class (
international class). Those who had not met the standard, had to attend a continuing
training program at Ubaya Language Center.

Abstract

The pandemic will end soon, yet health protocols are still important today. Education is all
done online to comply with regulations and to stop spreading the virus. In new normal era,
schools have begun to allow their students to enter by limiting the presence and dividing the
schedule. Then, is face-to-face learning really safe? What are the regulations of limited face-
to-face learning? How do students, teachers, and parents overcome transition from online
learning to face-to-face learning? This paper will answer that question by examining the
provisions of face-to-face Learning, risks of implementation of face-to-face learning, and the
regulations of limited face-to-face learning. Analysis through holistic perspectives by
combining education, health, social, and individual factors is also asserted to show
importance of substantive policy. Meanwhile, the policy seems to be in trial and error
condition as any new cluster case of COVID-19 in a new normal school will affect the whole
process. In conclusion, the transition is well prepared seen from health and other factors.
Moreover, that condition gives more opportunities to always care to every element of
education regarding this pandemic. The policymakers should never wait for new positive
cases to arise, as prevention of the disease is better to improve post-pandemic education
situations.
