◦ To select appropriate cleaning tools and equipment
with their proper uses and functions

◦ To follow pointers when using cleaning tools and


equipment.

Pointers when using cleaning tools
and equipment:
The following are some points to ponder when using
trolley, vacuum cleaners, brooms and brushes , buckets
or pails and mops:

1. Housekeeping Trolley
◦ must always be maintained safe and clean to use
◦ only two bags must be hanged off in the trolley (one for
linen/one for rubbish)
2. Vacuum Cleaner
◦ should be empty at the start of the shift
◦ should be checked if its functioning properly and
contains all the necessary accessories and bags to
be used
3. Brooms and
brushes
◦ must be enough to suffice the different cleaning
tasks
◦ only needed broom must be put in the trolley
4. Buckets or pails
◦ must be checked if it is easy to use, functions well with no leaks and odor
5. Mops
◦ must look presentable and sanitized to kill and stop
the spread of bacteria from one to another

PUBLIC AREAS
IN THE HOTEL
Public Toilets
◦ area in the hotel that needs to be cleaned
twice a day
◦ one housekeeping attendant is assigned in
the toilet areas
◦ busiest part of the hotel
◦ Toilets creates the first and last impression of
the hotel
Tools to clean the TOILET:
1. Spray bottles of disinfectant and cleaning clothes
2. Dust pans and sweeper
3. acid cleaners for toilet bowls
4. cleaning agents like toilet cleaners
5. mop-wringer trolley and mop
Tips in cleaning toilets
◦ each cubicle must be cleaned individually
◦ ensure the absence of residual body fluid on the toilet rim
◦ wipe and disinfect countertops and remove any rubbish left
◦ polish mirrors
◦ do not allow rubbish bins overflow with sanitary napkins
◦ Male urinals should be cleaned inside and the surroundings area
must also be disinfected
◦ mop the floor beginning from the farthest cubicle going to the
direction of the door

Function Rooms
◦ areas where guests dine and enjoy
drinks
◦ must be kept clean to make the
atmosphere pleasant to guests
Tools to be used:
1.Vacuum cleaner
2.mop and bucket
3.handy caddy
Tips in cleaning:
◦ Clean the area at least once a day or more depending
on how these are being used
◦ Use appropriate cleaning materials and polish to clean
windows and mirrors
◦ inspect if floors are free from any marks and stains
◦ wipe all light fittings
◦ collect all rubbish and keep the floor shiny
Private Lounge Area
◦ this is the private room made available for guest use
◦ area that serves multiple used can be turned into VIP holding rooms, reading or
gaming room depending on the need of the occasion
Tools to be used:
1. Vacuum cleaner
2. trolley with cleaning supplies
3. feather duster
4. Sani-bins
5. spray bottles
Foyer
◦ one of the busiest areas
in the hotel
◦ the challenge is to
maintain the area clean
and tidy because
guests create lasting
impression at the first
sight of the hotel foyer
Tools to be used:
1. dust mop
2. mop bucket
3. hand caddy
Walkways and
Balconies
◦ often used by guests as they go out
and go back to their rooms

TOOLS to be used:
1. broom with hard bristles
2. mops and bucket
3. hose
4. vacuum cleaner
Elevators, Stairways and corridors
◦ Elevators are cleaned late at night
◦ It should be shut down with the door open when cleaning the elevator during day time and
when guests walks in, cleaning must be stopped until they go out from the elevator

TOOLS to be used:
1. vacuum cleaner
2. mop and bucket
3. handy caddy
GENERAL GUIDELINES IN CLEANING
THE PUBLIC AREAS OF THE HOTEL:
◦ collect all the garbage
◦ dust and polish wooden surfaces and furniture such as
tables and chairs
◦ when cleaning with spills use damp cloth
◦ vacuum carpets exposed to dusts
◦ when cleaning floors put hazards signs
ACTIVITY!
Make a “5 To Do Actions” where you will choose
3 areas of your house and give a complete list of
required tools and equipment that must be used
to be able to clean it. And add additional ways
on how to clean it which are not included in the
discussion.
