The Girl in the Machine

Section 1: My review of progress & achievement to date (SWOT in essay form Approx.
200 words)

At the start of the year, I had previous knowledge of performing arts from
doing level 2 performing arts and gcse drama but this past year I have
gained a deeper knowledge and understanding. I have learnt more about
practitioners like Brecht and Artaud and more about their techniques and
their contributions to the theatre from our first project and in our second
project I was able to work on my dancing and singing skills and become
more confident in these areas. I have learnt more about scripts and
character work and how to portray characters and the story to an audience
effectively.
Section 2: Overview of the Collaborative Project (Approx. 150 words)
Our final project is The Girl in The Machine by Stef Smith in this project we will
put on a performance of the girl in the machine we will all have both a
performance role and production role. The Girl in The Machine is a play about
technology and vr. Polly gets what is called Black Box which is basically a virtual
reality that helps people with their emotions and Polly ends up being addicted
and almost isolating herself from her husband Owen and the black box ends up
uploading people minds to a sever so people could live forever when someone
uploads themselves there physical body dies which Polly dose at the end of the
play and when Owen tries to do the same he can't so he is left in this world
where most people have become addicted to black box a sort of post-
apocalyptic world. I think this play show the themes of technology, addiction
and I also think it isolation and loneliness

Section 3: Your Proposed Contribution as a performer and other roles (approx. 250 words)
Along with being a performer I will also be a part of the stage management
team and set and prop design team. I think the skills I can bring to the stage
management team would be my organisation skills I will keep track of the
props have a cast list and prop list, I would also make sure that everyone
knows what prop everyone is responsible work out when is best to take of
props and bring on props when any set pieces should come on or off and be
able to keep track of all these things. For the set and prop design I could bring
my art skills to the table I would be able to make the props or decorate any set
pieces

Section 4: How I will record and evaluate my contribution and progress throughout the
project (approx. 100 words)
How I plan to evaluate and reflect is that at the end of every day I will write
what I did in lesson in my notebook then at the end of the week I will write it
all upon to my Weebly. The way I plan on recording all of this is using a
mixture of written work and video reflections. This is also how I plan to show
my research.
5. Proposed Research Plan and Sources
What I plan to do for research is to try and watch the play, but I will also watch
the play Liberty, Equality and Fraternity which has similar themes as the girl in
the machine. I will also watch Things I Know to be True because it uses
physical theatre. I will also try to find books and podcast on the kind of themes
shown in the play along with a wide range of different websites. I also plan to
watch Black Mirror, The Social Dilemma, Girl From Nowhere which all have
similar themes to The Girl in The Machine.
