Project Title Unit 13 – Final Major Project

Section 1: Rationale (approx. 150 words)

Throughout previous projects, I have developed a better understanding of the necessary planning,
scheduling, and research that goes into filmmaking. This has allowed me to create more
professional content. I have also been able to greatly develop my technical skills by using high-end
equipment that would be otherwise unavailable. My narrative film has also improved as I have learnt
about the importance of visual storytelling, as well as having the chance to write my own scripts.
This has all helped me consider a potential career as a Director, as I enjoy working on all aspects of
film to some degree. I always had an interest in Cinematography; however, after learning of the
other avenues of film, I feel that I would be better suited to the role of Director as this would allow me
to control all the visual elements of a given project – which is the reason for my initial love of film.
Section 2: Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
After leaving University, Arlo works in a small barber shop in his home town whilst he continues to
pursue a career in journalism. Fascinated by his clients’ stories, he dedicates his spare time to
documenting them. Upon discovering the eccentric, yet elusive, Hugh Humphrey murdered in his
own home; Arlo attempts to crack the case, and evade the masses who view him as the prime
suspect.

I want to test myself with this project, which has resulted in an ambitious idea, that I feel will show off
my skills in abundance. Of course, I recognise this won’t be easy, as it is unlike anything I have
worked on before. After only creating my first Short Film with ‘DAMNATION’ earlier in the year, it is a
huge leap. Despite the challenges I will face, I am confident that it is a task I will meet with nothing
but determination and creativity.

Since starting at Carlisle College in 2019, upon learning about the Final Major Project, the plan has
been to create a Short Film. The reasons for this would likely be my aspirations to create feature
films in the near future, as well as my passion for storytelling. Since I was young, I have enjoyed
telling stories, and a Short Film provides me with the perfect format to do exactly that.
Section 3: Evaluation (approx. 150 words)
When considering how to record and evaluate my work, I have a few methods in mind to achieve
this. Using social media tools like TikTok and YouTube to short create videos detailing my progress
throughout production, is my main plan. This will be backed up by written ‘diary’ entries that shows
my day-to-day progress. I feel this will be effective as it allows me to show off my work as it
happens, as well as providing a visual example of tasks that I’ve completed throughout the process.
This will be added to by a final recorded evaluation, where I will discuss the project in its entirety,
and refer to the previously outlined goals as I reflect upon them and if I complete them. I had
considered creating a behind the scenes style documentary, that would follow the entire process,
however this would take up a lot of time and detract from the main project.
