STATEMENT OF AIMS
FMP unit is the summative unit in the final year of the two-year qualification. It
will provide students with a measure of self-directed learning through the
completion of a substantial creative media production and technology project.
The unit requires students to apply the skills, knowledge and understanding
developed over the entire course, to complete a creative media production project. It
will provide students with a measure of self-directed learning, and an opportunity to
further clarify their longer-term goals through their choice of an activity to explore in
greater depth.

Section 1: Rationale (minimum of 100 words)
When I joined the college course, I was very worried with how it was going to go
due to the massive change in my life and a bunch of new stuff. At the start I had
never used a mac computer before or used any of the software on them. However,
after doing a large number of projects and assignments I have learnt how to use
these programs and software’s. Since the start I have edited a large number of
videos on premiere for friends and myself. The usage of premiere for these things
definitely makes it my leading choice for my FMP as I will use the skills I have
learnt over my duration and the college to make a final video I would be proud of. I
feel like I have grown in a bunch of other subjects too doing subjects I never
thought I would. Before the course I had never thought I would do animation let
alone use tablets and computers to make them. Now I know how to use and make
animations with the software which I’m proud of learning in these 2 years. Overall,
I have made a lot of improvements in my skills and have learnt lots since starting
the course, I feel like I am ready and confident for this Final Major Project and I’m
going to push myself to get the highest grade I can.
Some other ideas I had in mind for this project would have been another
documentary. This time it would have been about How the RPG video game genre
has changed over time. This video would be a really big timeline of the changes
and developments in the RPG genre. I would talk about how mechanics have
changed in games and how people have developed them into what they are today.
Similar to my first idea I would talk about some negatives and positives that have
developed while RPG games evolved. I think this idea is a strong contender with
the first one as I know quite a lot about both. I would say I am more confident in
talking about the second Idea but the first one could also be good as it has a lot of
research and evidence backing it and could let me add a lot more to my Final
Major project research page. Finally, the third idea would be to make an
advertisement for my place of work as it could be a good idea including something
I want to do when I finish college. This would include a short 20-30 second advert
showing off the creation of the food and the selling of it. It would have the company
logo at the end showing of the brand that I made this for. As I am interested in
advertising and plan on doing things on it in university this could be a good idea for
learning and developing more skills for it. Overall, I think I am very happy with the
ai idea as my first choice due to its relevancy at the moment and large amount of
news coming out on it.
Section 3: Evaluation – How you plan to record your progress (minimum of 100
words)
The main way I will record my progress is through my Weebly site. I will be making
a diary on their including what I have done each lesson and what I would change
or do better. There will be a bunch of other pages on Weebly too showing of other
pieces of work and progress. Overall, I think this is the best way to record my
progress as all my other work is going to be on my Weebly site so it’s good if I put
my development of my work and a diary on there too. Other ways I could record
my progress through this project is some sort of word document that shows off
what I would have done throughout the week and what I would of changed. There
is also a big final evaluation at the end of the project where we go over specific
parts of the final major project that we would change and improve. I’m going to use
a word document for the final evaluation to talk about the ending.
1. Do something you enjoy – look back on projects this year and think about
what skills you’ve learnt and which you have really enjoyed. What job would
you like to do in the future? How can you apply it to your project? Pick a
theme or themes which you can connect with.
LOVE YOUR PROJECT
2. Do lots and lots of research – primary and secondary are both essential.
Use a wide range of methods and resources, such as questionnaires,
surveys, interviews (Primary), and researching the work of professional
practitioners and techniques (Secondary).
3. Manage your time – Just think how fast this year has gone so far. Plan
ahead and don’t fall behind. MAKE USE OF INDEPENDENT STUDY TIME.
4. You must document everything what happens as you go along. Your entire
journey from start to finish should be fully recorded. Describe and analyse as
you go along. Every aspect of your project should be fully considered. Your
Planning and Schedule will be vital to the success of your FMP
6. Critically analyse and evaluate – this will refer to the research you
undertake, the pre-production, production and post-production. Don’t just
describe but analyse, interpret, research and evaluate.
8. You are being graded against SEVEN Learning Outcomes, so you need to
ensure that you do the very best in each of them to achieve the grade you
may require, so pay close attention to all parts of the FMP
