The Final Major Project (Year Two)

STATEMENT OF AIMS

FMP unit is the summative unit in the final year of the two-year qualification. It
will provide students with a measure of self-directed learning through the
completion of a substantial creative media production and technology project.

The unit requires students to apply the skills, knowledge and understanding
developed over the entire course, to complete a creative media production project. It
will provide students with a measure of self-directed learning, and an opportunity to
further clarify their longer-term goals through their choice of an activity to explore in
greater depth.

Section 1: Rationale (minimum of 100 words)
When I joined the college course, I was very worried with how it was going to go
due to the massive change in my life and a bunch of new stuff. At the start I had
never used a mac computer before or used any of the software on them. However,
after doing a large number of projects and assignments I have learnt how to use
these programs and software’s. Since the start I have edited a large number of
videos on premiere for friends and myself. The usage of premiere for these things
definitely makes it my leading choice for my FMP as I will use the skills I have
learnt over my duration and the college to make a final video I would be proud of. I
feel like I have grown in a bunch of other subjects too doing subjects I never
thought I would. Before the course I had never thought I would do animation let
alone use tablets and computers to make them. Now I know how to use and make
animations with the software which I’m proud of learning in these 2 years. Overall,
I have made a lot of improvements in my skills and have learnt lots since starting
the course, I feel like I am ready and confident for this Final Major Project and I’m
going to push myself to get the highest grade I can.

Section 2: Project Concept (minimum of 200 words)

My main idea is a short documentary on how artificial intelligence has been
blowing up in popularity as of late everything thing seems to be made by an ai. In
this I would talk about what It all started with, including subjects such as the
creation of ai and what it is being used to create. I would also talk about the
positives and negatives with this sudden rise in ai and how it can affect things such
as artists ruining their job and hobby. But also, I could talk about the positives with
things such as chat bots and other creations. Overall, this is most likely my
strongest idea as I feel like it is very relevant to the world as ai’s popularity is at an
all-time high.

Some other ideas I had in mind for this project would have been another
documentary. This time it would have been about How the RPG video game genre
has changed over time. This video would be a really big timeline of the changes
and developments in the RPG genre. I would talk about how mechanics have
changed in games and how people have developed them into what they are today.
Similar to my first idea I would talk about some negatives and positives that have
developed while RPG games evolved. I think this idea is a strong contender with
the first one as I know quite a lot about both. I would say I am more confident in
talking about the second Idea but the first one could also be good as it has a lot of
research and evidence backing it and could let me add a lot more to my Final
Major project research page. Finally, the third idea would be to make an
advertisement for my place of work as it could be a good idea including something
I want to do when I finish college. This would include a short 20-30 second advert
showing off the creation of the food and the selling of it. It would have the company
logo at the end showing of the brand that I made this for. As I am interested in
advertising and plan on doing things on it in university this could be a good idea for
learning and developing more skills for it. Overall, I think I am very happy with the
ai idea as my first choice due to its relevancy at the moment and large amount of
news coming out on it.
Section 3: Evaluation – How you plan to record your progress (minimum of 100
words)
The main way I will record my progress is through my Weebly site. I will be making
a diary on their including what I have done each lesson and what I would change
or do better. There will be a bunch of other pages on Weebly too showing of other
pieces of work and progress. Overall, I think this is the best way to record my
progress as all my other work is going to be on my Weebly site so it’s good if I put
my development of my work and a diary on there too. Other ways I could record
my progress through this project is some sort of word document that shows off
what I would have done throughout the week and what I would of changed. There
is also a big final evaluation at the end of the project where we go over specific
parts of the final major project that we would change and improve. I’m going to use
a word document for the final evaluation to talk about the ending.

Section 4: Proposed Research Sources

The main research sources I will use during the creation of this project would be
Wikipedia and articles talking about artificial intelligence. Wikipedia is not always a
trust worthy source however most of the time its useful when it comes to getting
information as the web pages cover a bunch of sources such as history and links
to other articles that can help me learn more about ai. Wikipedia is a great choice
for a research source for this project. The other research source I plan to use is
articles. A lot of the time Wikipedia always has these linked making them easy and
accessible to find stuff out. They are also most of the time written by professionals
in the field of the subject and know a lot making them a very good research
source. Overall, I’m confident in these two choices to get my research from and
feel they will be very useful in the creation of my FMP.
Section 5: Equipment Required
I won’t need really many pieces of equipment for this project as I am doing a
documentary. However, one of the things I require for this computer with adobe
premiere pro on. I obviously need a computer for this project as it requires a lot of
research and editing for. I have one of these a home and college in which I can do
this research for my FMP. I really need to have adobe premiere pro on these
computers as in the years at college this is the editing software, they use to teach
us and what I use in my spare time. Similar to the computer I have both premiere
on my computer at home and at college, However, the version I have at home is
adobe premiere pro 2020 while the ones on the college computers are 2023 so I
don’t know how this will affect my ability to edit. Overall, I think this is all I need for
my FMP and am more than happy to use them.

Section 6: Resources Required

I don’t really need any resources for a documentary so I won’t need anything like
that. The only thing that comes to mind could be things like paper to write and
create a story board thing for the video and a script. However I will be using things
such as stock images and videos online for the project

Section 7: Skills to develop/learn

Even though I use the software quite a lot I feel like if I want to get the grade, I
want in the final major project I will have to improve my skills in using and creating
videos in premiere pro. This would include things such as cut a way, editing and
text in my video to make it look very professional and well made. However, this
shouldn’t take long to learn as there is a bunch of videos and tutorials, I can learn
these off. One very Important thing I need to have for this is confidence as in the
last project I felt my voice recording felt very underwhelming and I didn’t make it
sound interesting. However, with this project I will make me sound very informative
and professional for this assignment.

Section 8: Personnel and responsibilities

I don’t really require anyone else for this project. There might be clips and stuff I
use with others in my final video but other than that I don’t really need any
personnel.

Section 9: Intended audience and context

I feel like the main audience I am targeting with a subject like that would be very
late teens and adults. The age range most likely would be around 16 to 30 due the
subject being more mature than things that would be targeted to the younger
audiences. This would probably be good for people that are pretty involved in IT
and other things to do with computers as I don’t really think people who are not
that versed in technology will find my video interesting. My finished product will be
upload on YouTube and played at the exhibition for the final major project meaning
its accessible to all types of people and can be viewed at any time.

Section 10: Creative Mindsets

I will be using the creative mindsets a lot during my FMP. Starting with ownership
considering I’m the only one working on this project I am the owner of it which
includes making all the decisions with what I do and how the final product looks
like. With critical thinking I will be doing it through out to get to my final product as
this includes things such as deciding which music sounds better in a scene or what
thing to show at the point which could be very important to my final grade. With
problem solving it can help me get though situation when I’m stuck such as if my
work Is loading that day and to do other stuff on it. It can lead to very good things
that can also be important for this grade. Creativity is the biggest thing out of all of
these. Without it I would not have an idea for the project or to know what to do with
me video. This is a very important step in my Final major project. Risk taking is
also very important at times. Examples of this included having two different
choices and choosing one over another even if it will be more of a risk in the long
run. Finally, collaboration might be important in this project. This could be due to
getting advice on my video so far from someone else or taking an idea from a
website.
How to successfully complete a final major project

1. Do something you enjoy – look back on projects this year and think about
what skills you’ve learnt and which you have really enjoyed. What job would
you like to do in the future? How can you apply it to your project? Pick a
theme or themes which you can connect with.
LOVE YOUR PROJECT

2. Do lots and lots of research – primary and secondary are both essential.
Use a wide range of methods and resources, such as questionnaires,
surveys, interviews (Primary), and researching the work of professional
practitioners and techniques (Secondary).

3. Manage your time – Just think how fast this year has gone so far. Plan
ahead and don’t fall behind. MAKE USE OF INDEPENDENT STUDY TIME.

4. You must document everything what happens as you go along. Your entire
journey from start to finish should be fully recorded. Describe and analyse as
you go along. Every aspect of your project should be fully considered. Your
Planning and Schedule will be vital to the success of your FMP

5. Research, design, experiment, build, evaluate. Your project should evolve

over the allotted time. Be flexible and adaptable if your FMP decides to go in
a different direction than first intended. Ensure you record all developments as
the project develops.

6. Critically analyse and evaluate – this will refer to the research you
undertake, the pre-production, production and post-production. Don’t just
describe but analyse, interpret, research and evaluate.

7. Listen to advice from your lecturers in formative assessment sessions

throughout the project. You might just find that as we are used to marking
work, we know what the requirements are to make good/exceptional projects.
Remember, your work will be graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction, so aim
for the best grade you can and take advice on board when given.

8. You are being graded against SEVEN Learning Outcomes, so you need to
ensure that you do the very best in each of them to achieve the grade you
may require, so pay close attention to all parts of the FMP
