I. Title of Case Study

The impact of technological advancement “Dynamo Machine”

in Lechon business (Jhunbar’s Lechon Hauz)

II. Introduction

In the Philippines, any feast is not full without the presence of

the delicious roasted pig named "lechon" Lechon is certainly the main

attraction of a Filipino festival such as birthdays, fiestas, baptismal

celebrations, graduations and wedding celebrations, whether it is

portrayed as the whole sucking pig with an apple in its mouth or a

more modern way of bite-sized bits wrapped in pita bread. Lechon is

called the "star" of the celebration because the guests will always be

attracted to the lechon, it's taste and appearance even though you

spend too much money on decorations or location.

In this case, the business lechon of jhunbar’s lechon hauz is

being studied, to determine the impact of having a technological

advancement such as dynamo machine to the business. The

occurrence of the Covid 19 virus is more alarming, though the crisis

arises, they do not intend to lose hope but continue to innovate their

business to avoid the decrease on sales.

III. Company Background

The Jhunbar’s lechon business started in 1998, but before that

my dad had a lot of experience to come up with that business, first, my


dad was just repacking charcoal and sell mangoes, they also go into

the “Karenderya”, but then my daddy started a partnership business

with his friend, and lechon business arises, but after a few years, my

dad

decided split the partnership and started a lechon business on his own

since he already know how to slaughter a pig and cook it as lechon. In

1998 my dad’s lechon was not yet known, it does not have yet the

popularity that every business goals, but because of his hard work and

dedication he slowly innovate his business and make it achieve the

popularity, my dad once said “It’s better to be slow but sure than

being quick but no assurance”.

The only strategies used by Jhunbar’s lechon business are the

local radio advertisement and the consistent display of product in

Gingoog public market. They used technological advancement to

ease the capacity of employees and lessen the cost of paying wages

to employees.

Jhunbar’s Lechon business provide a services and product

like whole lechon, lechon belly, cooked sampayna, lechon kanding,

lechon pabo, lechon manok and etc.

IV. Statement of the Problem

The following are the problems identified on the case:

1. The advantage and disadvantage use of dynamo machine

2. Which is more efficient to use; dynamo machine or manual


cooking?

3. Decreasing sales

4. Increasing electric bills

V. Objectives

The problems stated/mentioned above are the main reason

why this case study is made. In the end of this study we should be

able to;

1. Know the effect of having a dynamo machine in lechon

business and its advantage to competitions.

2. Determine the strategies to use to avoid decreasing in sales 3.

Determine the ways to lessen electric bill with such technology

use; and

4. Know how efficient is dynamo machine in lechon business

VI. Areas of Consideration

✓ Manpower: The Jhunbar’s lechon business has a few employees

left because they are now having a technology that operate

the whole cooking operation. They have the “mamantayay sa

kalayo”, “mangihaway”, “mang hinlo tinae”, “magtimpla sa

baboy”, “tig tahi”, “tig hatod/deliver sa lechon, person who is in

charge for “tig hatod ug tig kuha sa stroller”, and the cashier

which sometimes manage by the owner.


✓ Materials: Lechon business of Jhunbar’s offers a service cooking

lechon baboy, lechon kanding, lechon pabo, lechon belly and

also cooking the “tinae” of the pig.

✓ Methods: After the pig to be delivered by the owner to jhunbar’s

lechon hauz, the pig is being slaughtered and “gi timplahan”

with ingredients needed and also with alpine in its skin. The hours

of cooking depends on the kilos of the pig, 20-35 kilos last almost

3-4 hours, 36-40 kilos can be cooked in less than 5hours. After it is

cooked, it is being cleaned and “trapuhan” to make it more

presentable.

✓ Machinery: To help the business to operate it needs a machineries and other

technology. The jhunbar’s lechon hauz uses a dynamo machine for cooking

and the metal bar where the pig is put. They also have the stoller where the

cooked pig is put and displayed facing the public market for selling purposes.

✓ Mansion: The mansion is a place where the establishments or business is

located. The jhunbar’s lechon hauz is located at Zone 10, Brgy. 19, Gingoog

City.

✓ Management

Nowadays, as the covid 19 arises. The management of

Jhunbar’s lechon hauz implement a policy to lessen the spread

of corona virus.

1. The client or customer must wear face mask to enter the

establishment and have a proper sanitation for paying

money.

2. Their employees are also following social distancing and wear

face mask when working.

3. The owner should also wear mask to be a role model for

his/her customers and employees.

The mentioned factors above has an enormous contribution

especially on this time of pandemic. It determines the potential

impact of every actions and also the difficulty of choosing the right
strategies to the business to be productive. By understanding how

these factors impact the method and also the establishment.

VII. Alternative Courses of Action

▪ Lessen the use of dynamo machine

Advantage: They can lessen the cost of electric bill

Disadvantage: The operation might last longer and cost more, since

the machine enables the business to operate faster and lessen the

money cost for paying individual employees.

▪ Expand distribution

Advantage: They can attract more customers to other

barangays. Disadvantage: It can cost more money for freights

▪ Social media advertisement/promotion for their products offered

Advantage: They can gain popularity for their product

Disadvantage: Not all people might not see their online advertisement

and people may ignore it.

▪ Use of charcoal

Advantage: They can lessen the cost for cooking

Disadvantage: Takes time for the pig to cook.

VIII. Recommendation/s

Among the alternative courses of action mentioned in above


section, I recommend the first ACA: Lessen the use of dynamo

machine. Instead of using the dynamo machine always, they must

first try to think the important use of a machine, if that machine is

capable of catering more products then use it in seasonal event like

fiestas, Christmas, New Year and etc. Because when you always use

the dynamo machine and there are less than 5 customers, you just

waste the electricity of using dynamo, instead you should use the

manpower, hired those people who wants to “tuyok” the pig for

designated prices. For that, the business will lessen the cost for

electricity bill without losing customers.
