How did the Kolibri project get
started?
The idea for Kolibri has been part of Learning Equality’s vision from the very beginning. It
originated from KA Lite, which was launched in 2012, and is now providing local, offline
access to Khan Academy content to millions of learners in over 175 countries and
territories. This success helped to open the door for the development of Kolibri, which
greatly expands on everything that KA Lite could offer.

This product ecosystem aims to provide supportive learning experiences in environments

where there is little or no Internet connectivity, particularly during the COVID-19
pandemic.
What is Kolibri's
Kolibri's purpose of giving offline access to an
Objective? openly licensed content library for use in low-
resource contexts is very high need, high-
impact. The ability to access content offline
opens up access to several communities that
are still struggling from the at-home digital
divide.

Private or unlisted Kolibri Studio provides the tools to build and curate your
own custom channels. As a content curator you can use

channels resources from public channels and combine it with your

own imported ones to build custom channels, aligned to the
local curricula, or according to your specific learning needs.

Who will use Kolibri Studio to curate channels will depend

on the setting in which Kolibri is deployed. Content curation
tasks may be the responsibility of the same person who
installed Kolibri, or require different and separate roles.

In case of your private/unlisted channels, only users who

receive the channel token can view and use the channel.

Upload Files
Users can also upload file or documents that they want to share on their channel.

Kolibri Studio currently supports the upload of the following file formats for individual learning
resources:
MP4 - video files
MP3 - audio files
PDF - document files
ePUB - ebook files
ZIP - packaged HTML5

There is an initial storage limit of 500MB for the files that you upload to Kolibri Studio. You can keep
track of the used storage, and request more if necessary, from the My Settings > Storage page.
Create Exercises/Assessments
In Kolibri you can create exercises that contain a set of interactive questions (numeric,
multiple-choice, check all that apply, or true or false) that learners can engage with. With
exercises, learners will receive instant feedback on whether they answer each question
correctly or incorrectly.

Import Resources from other Channels

Users can also import topics or resources from other channels, either those that they
published previously or those that are publicly available.
