Activity (Sampling Techniques)

1. Solve the following problems

a. Given the following population sizes, determine the sample size at 5%
and 1% margins of error using the Slovin’s formula. Complete the table
below.

N n
5% error 1%error
1. 1200
2. 500
3. 1600
4. 4200
e. 12,000

b. There are 400 schools in a certain region located in 8 different

provinces. If a random sample size of 60 will be chosen, explain how to
do it hypothetically if the technique to be used is:

a. Simple random sampling

b. Systematic sampling

c. Stratified random sampling using equal allocation

c. A certain university has a total of 650 faculty members. Of these, 250

are instructors, 175 are assistant professor, 120 are associate professors
and 105 are full professors.

1. Determine the sample size using 5% marginal error

2. Apply stratified sampling using proportional allocation to
determine the number of faculty members under each stratum.
(Present sample distribution in tabular form)
2. Choose 3 types of non-probability sampling techniques, and give an
example of a research problem/question where the sampling technique
can be appropriately used.
