Water Properties on Environmental Phenomenon

The properties of water have something to do with the different environmental

phenomenon that we observe in our life. Those properties of water are somehow the reasons why
they occur or become observable. Examples of environmental phenomenon or situations wherein
properties of water were related are: (1) plant nutrition, (2) environmental pollution, (3) changing
climate and the capacity of bodies of water act as temperature buffer, (4) drying up of small
water bodies, and (5) survival of aquatic organisms in temperate countries.

Water is an important thing that plant needs in order to grow properly. In plant
nutrition, the property of water that were involved is the capillary action. Plants couldn't thrive
without capillary action. Their roots into the soil are capable of carrying water from the soil up
into the whole plant. Once water, which contains dissolved nutrients, gets inside the roots, it
starts climbing up the plant tissue. Capillary action helps bring water up into the roots. To bring
water up to all the parts of plants, especially branches and leaves, the forces of adhesion and
cohesion go to work in the plant's xylem. That's how a certain property of water related to plant
nutrition.

On environmental pollution especially water pollution, the property of water as a

good solvent was the one involved. As we all know, water pollution happens when toxic/
harmful substances such as chemicals or microorganisms enter bodies of water such as lakes,
rivers, oceans and so on. Since water is a good solvent, those substances dissolve on it. Thus,
bodies of water become contaminated and results in degradation of the quality of water.

On the phenomena of changing climate and the capacity of bodies of water act as
temperature buffer, the property of water as having high heat capacity was responsible for this.
Most bodies of water are large, thus, they were not significantly affected by the heat from the
sun. Moreover, since water has a relatively high heat capacity, it can absorb a lot of heat before its
temperature rises, thus providing an almost constant temperature.
 We can also observe the drying up of small bodies of water and the property involved in
this is the vapor pressure. Climate change or rise in temperature have an impact on this situation. When
temperature rises, it affects the small bodies of water, its temperature also increase. So, when water
temperature increase, its vapor pressure also increase. Meaning to say, water molecules have enough
energy to escape from the liquid and go into vapor or gas phase. That’s why some small bodies of water
dries up.

Lastly, the survival of aquatic organisms in temperate countries. The property of

water as less dense when solid is the one involve in this. Temperate countries sometimes
experience snow and it affects some bodies of water where organisms live. This results in the
formation of ice on top of the water. But still, aquatic organisms manage to survive under that
condition because ice is only on the top of water, floating, and the atmosphere under water was
still the same and able to support life.

Approved Topic (you would like to study): Health Awareness

Proposed Title: Strengthening Health Awareness of OMNHS Senior High School Students Using
Social Media.

I. Problem Identification

1. What are your reasons in selecting the topic you desire?

The main reason why I chose this topic is to raise and strengthen awareness and improve
knowledge about health topics and motivate healthy behavior change. Another reason is that, I
think this topic perfectly fits with our current situation, wherein there’s the danger of infectious
and fatal disease, which is the Coronavirus disease.

2. Based from the desired topic, I am concerned about the level of awareness and knowledge of
students regarding health issues or topics because I am sure that it has something to do with their
safety, especially with our current situation.

II. Research Questions (Statement of the Problem)

Based from the problem stated above, I would like to ask the following:

1. How well aware are students regarding health topics especially, Coronavirus disease?

2. Is there a statistically significant difference in the health knowledge of students after reading
brief message related to health topics using social media?

3. Is there a statistically significant difference in the health awareness of students after reading
brief message related to health topics using social media?

4. Is there a statistically significant difference in the health prevention behavior of students after
reading brief message related to health topics using social media?

III. Scope and Limitations of the Study

1. The study focuses on strengthening health awareness of students with the use of social media.

2. The study is limited to the level of health awareness among students and whether social media
was an effective tool or way on increasing knowledge, awareness, prevention behaviors related
to health issue/ topics such as Coronavirus disease.

VI. Purpose and Significance of the Study

1. This research is conducted mainly to evaluate whether raising health awareness using social
media platforms is effective for SHS students of OMNHS. The goal is to measure the level of
health awareness of students and to determine if social media was an effective tool to increase
knowledge, awareness, prevention behaviors related to health issue/ topic of Coronavirus
disease.

2. This will benefit the following (who will be benefited by the study)

This study will benefit the Department of Health, Students, Entire population, and Future
researchers because (1) for DOH, it will give them ideas and made them think about what action
they will make in order to increase awareness about health topics, (2) for students, it could help
them increase their health awareness to reduce the burden of disease, (3) for entire population,
this study could be used to inform innovative strategies that promote technology- based
interventions supporting health awareness and treatment for them, and (4) for future researchers,
they can use this study for the review of related literature and studies. This will give them ideas
and knowledge as they conduct their research related to this topic.
