OCEAN POLLUTION
Oceans are important reservoir for CO2 as well as an integral
part of ecosystem but for a long time now they have been
subjected to a lot of pollution ranging from accidental oil
spills,plastic debris to eutrophication.
Ocean pollution is a
combination of chemicals and trash, most of which comes
from land sources and is washed or blown into the ocean.
This pollution results in damage to the environment, to the
health of all organisms, and to economic structures
worldwide.
Causes of ocean pollution
Sewage.
Toxic Chemicals From Industries.
Land Runoff.
Large Scale Oil Spills.
Ocean Mining.
Littering.
Plastic debris.
What is the Issue ?
Plastic is a synthetic organic polymer made from petroleum with
properties ideally suited for a wide variety of
applications including: packaging, building and construction,
household and sports equipment, vehicles, electronics and
agriculture. Over 300 million tons of plastic are produced every
year, half of which is used to create single-use items such as
shopping bags, cups and straws. If discarded improperly, plastic
waste can harm the environment and biodiversity.
At least 14 million tons of plastic end up in the ocean every year. Plastic
debris is currently the most abundant type of litter in the ocean, making
up 80% of all marine debris found from surface waters to deep-sea
sediments. Plastic is found on the shorelines of every continent, with more
plastic waste found near popular tourist destinations and densely
populated areas.
Some facts related to ocean pollution
More plastic than fish- Eight million metric tons: That’s how much
plastic we dump into the oceans each year. That’s about 17.6 billion
pounds — or the equivalent of nearly 57,000 blue whales — every
single year. By 2050, ocean plastic will outweigh all of the ocean’s
fish.

garbage patches- There’s so much junk at sea, the debris has formed
giant garbage patches. There are five of them around the world, and
the largest — the Great Pacific Garbage Patch — includes an estimated
1.8 trillion pieces of trash and covers an area twice the size of Texas.

Plastic poses a double danger- Ocean trash can be broken into

smaller pieces — known as microplastic — by sun exposure and wave
action, after which it can find its way into the food chain. When it
eventually degrades (which takes 400 years for most plastic), the
process releases chemicals that further contaminate the sea.
 Existing problem  Best Possible solutions

According to me,There
1.Accidental Oil spills in should be oil spill
ocean. Tracker in pipes through
which the sensors can
detect the leaking of oil
by which we can protect
a lot of aquatic lifes.

Currently ,this type of

system is used by
companies named
Advisian and MetOcean
Telematics
 Existing problem  Best Possible solutions
 House hold plastic  Eco bricks method
In this method,Generally Non-
waste. Biodegradable used plastic is cut
or ripped into small pieces then
packed little by little, alternating
between adding the plastic and
compacting it, layer by layer. The
bottle is rotated with each press to
ensure the plastic is evenly
compacted throughout the bottle.
This helps prevent voids and that
the packing reaches the requisite
solidity needed for building block
applications.

Now,final made ecobricks are now

ready to use as a reusable building
blocks. It can be used to produce
various items including
furniture,garden walls and other
structures.

Note:-The bottle and the plastic used

should be cleaned &dry so that no
growth of bacteria takes place.
