Review of Related Literature

The researcher evaluated available material on ecosystem services derived
from furniture manufacturing in this synthesis article, stressing how
sustainable design principles can be leveraged to improve product
competitiveness. Green manufacturing, green supply chains, eco-design,
sustainable materials, biomimicry, and eco-labeling were all covered in this
topic. While both "eco-design" and "eco-design" are often used in the
literature, "eco-design" is used in this synthesis for consistency; similarly,
"ecolabel" and "eco-label" are commonly used in the literature, with the
latter being used in this article. The major source of the evaluated
publications was a literature search conducted in early 2020 using Google
Scholar using the keywords stated.

The article finishes with a discussion of the future directions and challenges
for secondary wood products enterprises in terms of furniture design,
customization, and the range of ecosystem services that could be given.

Green Manufacturing and Supply Chains

According to the "Ten Golden Rules" proposed by Luttropp and Lagerstedt
are generic and can be tailored to individual situations. The concepts
include the use of recyclable materials, product longevity and reliability, low
energy usage, minimal waste during production, and clean production
practices. Green manufacturing and supply chains rely heavily on design.
Discovered that eco-design improved the environmental performance of
Indonesian small and medium-sized wood furniture makers. Product design
decisions frequently have an impact on the supply chain in a variety of
ways, including the materials utilized and the location of the suppliers of
those materials. Eco-design benefits include less environmental effect,
lower company expenses, the development of innovative goods, and
potential commercial advantages.
Drivers of Sustainable Design in Furniture
The product design is an essential component of the transition to green
furniture manufacture. Green manufacturing strategies have gained
prominence in modern marketing. The incorporation of environmental
sustainability concerns into product design throughout the new product
development process for upholstered furniture can open new markets and
product areas, but it does not always result in greater financial performance
that discovered comparable results in the production of character-marked
furniture goods in the US wood furniture sector. Similarly, multiple
"pressures" in the product development process, spanning no fewer than
32 parts of the entire product development can collectively stymie the
adoption of possible new eco-design tools. Because if there is an early
collaboration among functional groups within the organization, designers
can be a major source of initial support for character-marks and other eco-
design concepts. If there is an early collaboration among functional groups
within the organization, designers can be a major source of initial support
for character-marks and other eco-design concepts.

Sustainable Materials for Furniture Design

The importance of product design in promoting the use of more sustainable
materials in the furniture business has been recognized. Given the
necessary design parameters, wood is one of the various materials that
can be used in furniture goods. Even when employing wood, it has been
discovered that the species of the wood itself has ramifications for the
finished product's impression by consumers. Given the necessary design
parameters, wood is one of the various materials that can be used in
