Expenditure on self = 15%
Expenditure on children = 20% (½ m)
Total expenditure = (50 + 15 + 20)% = 85%

Q 25. The length of the shadow of a tower 153 m high is 45 m at a particular time. Find the height of an (2)
electric pole whose shadow is 20 m long at the same time. [E]
Sol: Since more the height of tower, longer will be the shadow.
So height and length of a shadow are in direct proportion. ( ½ m)

Sol: Let the total number of students be x.
Number of boys = 28% of x (1 m)
Number of girls= 100 – 28 = 72 x

Sol. (i) Let the required length of shadow be x m.

Volume of the cube with side 8 cm = ((side)3 = (8)3 = 512 cm3. ( 1 m)

(iii) How far is the place of the merchant from the town?
Sol. (i) Scale taken on time-axis i.e., the x-axis is 4 units = 1 hour ….... ( 1 m)

Q 34. The perimeter of the floor of a hall is 300 m. If the height is 5 m, find the cost of painting the four (3)
walls at the rate of ` 15 per square meter. [U]
Sol. Surface area to be painted = 2(lh + bh) = 2h(l + b) ….... ( ½ m)
Given perimeter of floor = 300 m = 2(l + b) and height is 5 m. ….... ( ½ m)

Surface area = 300  5  1500 m2 ….... ( ½ m)

Cost of painting 1 sq.m = ` 15 ….... ( ½ m)

Cost of painting 1500 sq.m =1500  15 = ` 22,500 ….... ( 1 m)

Q 35. The radius and height of a cylinder are in the ratio 5: 7 and it volume is 4400 cm3. (4)
Find the radius and surface area of the cylinder. [A]
Sol. Ratio of radius and height = 5: 7

Q 38. A hollow cylindrical pipe is made up of copper. It is 21 cm long, the outer and inner diameters of the
pipe are 10 cm and 6 cm respectively, find the volume of copper used in making the pipe.

Internal radius (r) = 6/2 = 3 cm
