TASK #2: Eight Reasons Students Resist Learner Centered Teaching (LCT)
1. Old habits die hard

Everything today is different from the past including the system


of education. We need to adopt for this changing world so that we can continue the learning
system. We should train teachers on our new and then support them as they implement that
approach. But that level of simple and intuitive is also too vague to make a difference.

2. High schools remain teacher-centered institutions-

Learning system in high schools is not the same in college. College life is much harder and much difficult
than high school. We need to implement different method so that they can adjust for those changes.
3. Learning is not a top reason students give for attending college-

Financial aids, one of the biggest or the main reason why the student cannot afford to go in
college according to statistic. There are alternative solutions if we want to continue our education. Many
agencies private and government offered scholarship and assistance for thus student who are willing to
continue their learnings. we can also be a student worker so that we can continue our learning while we
are working, some schools offer this type of learning system.

4. Students don’t like taking learning risks –

No one learns without making mistakes. Quite the opposite – we learn when we make mistake. we need
to educate student that taking risk will not resulting of failure. Teacher can be a model desired
behaviors in all aspect of teaching, including how to handle a mistake and move forward. We need to
encourage them to take risk because it will help them to be strong and grow.

5. LCT doesn’t resemble what students think of as school-

As a teacher we don’t need to change our teaching style. Students can’t easy adjust for that for that type
of changes. To encourage and engage them to the different learning process do not change the
type of teaching process.

6. Students don’t want to give more effort and LCT requires it-

In order to encourage student to do task we must appreciate the different accomplishment they made
including the output, activity, and test. Give some token or anything surely, they will be excited and
actively participated on the next activity.

7. Students’ mindsets about learning make adapting to LCT more difficult-

Helping our students to understand that they hold a false belief about their learning capacity and that
effort, time and effective teaching can result in success in any subject in crucial to optimizing our
students’ learning opportunities. It is one of the most important actions we can take to assist our
students in finding success.

8. Many students follow the path of least resistance in their learning-

An alternative solution for this reason is that we should focus on the needs of our students. Let’s try to
make them understand that the grade it is just a number, the important thing is we learned.
ACTIVATION:

In my own idea, resistance to change has its advantages and disadvantages in todays learning
approaches to students and teachers. They are involved in these drastic changes that with the use of
technology, some of the students learns from the lessons while others are not. There is area also
learners and teachers who are not more capable or ready to this kind of changes. If there is a change,
then there will be a resistance to it, likewise in education.
