activities during the weekend. They are discussing what they usually do with their families
and friends.

Pixie: Yesterday, our cousins came to visit us.

Dixie: My cousin Dan and I went to ride our bicycles in the

park nearby. Pixie and our cousins Tibo and Fran stayed at
home to play hide and seek.

Pixie: In the evening, we had a Bingo party. It is our family’s

favourite pastime. Our grandmother often wins. She’s

Sunday morning, we remove the weeds and take care of the
flowers. My mother gives extra attention to her geraniums
and roses. We have a beautiful garden.

Mira: At home, we love to play board-games during our

free time on Sundays. I prefer to play Uno and Snakes
and Ladders, but my little brother prefers Dominoes and
Carrom. My whole family loves to play Scrabble. We try to
play as often as we can.

Every Saturday, I love going to ballet school. My class starts at 9 o’clock and it finishes at 10
o’clock. Before I enter the dance studio, I put on my pink ballet slippers, my pink leotard and
I tie my hair in a bun.

Inside the dance studio, our dance instructor, Mrs Isabelle, teaches us new dance steps very
slowly so that we can learn. I like practising ballet with Mrs Isabelle as she is very patient. She
teaches the steps again if we do not do it properly. When I grow up, I want to be a professional

Pixie and Dixie’s eldest cousin Sasha came to take them with her to a music concert.

and Dixie live. “This is so exciting! Selena Star is a superstar!” Pixie shouted, laughing
excitedly.

“Wow! Will this be an open-air concert? I went to one last year in Mahebourg Waterfront,”
Dixie said.

“No Dixie, this will take place in 'B and B' auditorium. Let’s go early so that we can find
our seats quickly,” Sasha said.

When they reached the auditorium, Pixie, Dixie and Sasha had to queue outside because
there were so many people waiting to see the show. “I hope we’re not going to miss
anything!” Sasha said. She gave the concert-tickets to one of the ushers at the door and
they were let inside. The whole audience was really happy because the show started
right on time!

round of applause. She took her microphone and welcomed all her fans. The band
behind her played many different instruments. One musician played the drums, one
played the keyboard, and three musicians played guitars.

At the end of the show, Selena Star sang her most popular song. Pixie, Dixie, and
Sasha had a great time and didn’t want it to end. Everyone in the audience stood up
and applauded for a long time when the show was over. Many people whistled too.
“Thank you for bringing us with you!” Pixie and Dixie shouted as they hugged and
kissed Sasha.

“You’re welcome! Now, let’s go home and tell all the family about the fun we had here!”

How to be healthy and happy

Pixie and Dixie’s cousin, Loulou, and her friend Jamal were
camping in a big nature park with many friends. It was a
camping weekend all about health and happiness. On the
first day, Loulou did some yoga early in the morning. It was
very relaxing. After this, she went paddle boating in the
nearby lake, played in the table tennis competition, and
learned to do archery for the first time. She was able to hit
the centre of the target!

“Archery can be dangerous if we don’t learn to do it safely.

The teachers here are very good. It’s our last day here.
What do you want to do today?” Loulou asked.

“There’s a talk starting soon about living a healthy and happy life. Let’s go to that,” Jamal
said excitedly.

58
Sports and Relaxation Unit 7

The woman talking was a famous doctor. She asked the audience some questions.
“Do you often feel tired at school? Are there times you feel grumpy? Do you frequently
feel sick?”

Many people said yes. Loulou and Jamal did too. “To live a healthy and happy life there
are some important things you must do. If you do these things, you will not feel tired at
school. You will not feel grumpy and you will be in better health,” the woman said.

“You must eat healthy food, like fruits and vegetables, and
drink lots of water every day. Exercise gives you energy!
Try to take part in sports, games, and exercises that you
enjoy. It is also important to take some time each day to
relax. This will help you to feel calm and peaceful. You
should all try to get enough sleep too! Do not watch too
much TV or spend too much time on the computer. And one
final thing, make sure you get lots of fresh air!” The doctor
finished her talk and asked everyone to go and enjoy the
nature park.

READING FOR PLEASURE

SHARED
I love reading my storybooks with my reading
mum before going to bed! Reading is a
great hobby to relax. This is my favourite
fairy tale. Let’s read it together!

Inside the Rainbow

Sana and Ryan were bored! It had been raining heavily outside and they had spent the
whole afternoon watching cartoons! They didn’t want to watch anymore! Both Sana and
Ryan wanted some fresh air. They wanted to go and play outside with Fluffy, their puppy.

All of a sudden, the sun peeped out from behind the clouds and they saw the most
beautiful rainbow!

Without wasting any time, the two children raced out into the garden. They were happily
playing with Fluffy when they heard a tiny voice whisper in their ears. “Come and visit the
secret place inside the rainbow!”

The children were very surprised. At first, they could not see anybody and they thought
they had imagined it. They continued playing, when they heard the whisper again! This
time, it was much louder.

“Come and visit the secret place inside the rainbow!”

74
Sports and Relaxation Unit 7

Suddenly, there was a sprinkle of gold dust and a very pretty fairy appeared! Sana and
Ryan were speechless! Excitedly, the two children followed the fairy inside the rainbow!
In front of them there was a magnificent cave full of the most exquisite toys. There were
traditional toys, digital toys, and even magical toys of all shapes and sizes!

The children were so surprised! They ran and started playing with the toys. They played
and played and played until the fairy appeared again and told them that it was time to
return home. Sana and Ryan were upset. They did not want to go!

With a twinkle in her eye, the fairy told them that the secret place inside the rainbow was
always here for them. She told them that she would come and invite them back here
whenever they saw a rainbow! “Why have you chosen us?” Sana asked timidly.

“You are kind children. You take good care of animals and you always respect your
elders!” the fairy replied with a smile.
