FOOT IN THE DOOR: The foot in the door technique is a compliance strategy based on the
assumption that agreeing to a minor request enhances the likelihood of agreeing to a larger
request in the future.
For example, initially a friend of mine borrowed a small amount of money from me and
eventually asked to borrow a huge amount.
OBEDIENCE: Obedience is basically a type of social influence in which a person complies
with an authoritative figure's orders.
For example, I obeyed to my professor’s order when he asked me to shift from the last bench to
the first. This is a typed of social influence where I obeyed to my professor’s order.
COHESIVENESS: the strength of people attraction to the group's job and social activities, as
well as the extent to which task and social bonds exist among group members.
For example, my bond with a couple of friends is cohesive in nature because we like spending
time with each other irrespective of our goals being similar or not.
SOCIAL EXCLUSION: Social exclusion is the practise of keeping a person or a group out of
social interactions. It usually happens when a someone or a group is thought to have unattractive
features or attributes that are considered unworthy of attention.
For example, I witnessed a lady not being accepted to a restaurant in Mumbai just because she
was dressed up in an Indian attire of her choice.
CROWD FUNDING: Crowdfunding is the process of raising funds for a project from a large
number of people who each contribute a small amount of money expecting nothing in return.
For example, two students from a college came to my building asking for donations. Initially I
did not wish to donate but then they showed me a paper which had details of the members of the
society who had donated money. Everyone had donated about 20-50/- and so I was motivated to
pay 50/-.
NARCISSISTIC RAGE: narcissistic rage is basically an outburst of strong anger or silence.
When someone has an excessive or highly inflated feeling of their own worth, they have
narcissistic personality disorder.
For example, when some personal bad memories occurred in my friend’s mind he was triggered
which led him into intense anger.
CYBER BULLYING: Cyberbullying is basically the use of digital technologies to harm others.
It is commonly accomplished through the use of the Internet, but it can also be accomplished
through the use of mobile phones.
For example, when I posted a picture with a friend, I was severely bullied. The aggressor was a
class mate who made racist comments and abused in the comment section which affected my
mental health.
PUNISHMENT: Punishment or the imposition of negative consequences, is a common method
for restraining violence. People who engage in forbidden violent behaviour face significant fines,
imprisonment, and, in some countries, solitary detention or physical punishment as a result of
their activities.
For example, As a kid whenever I used to cross the road without looking left or right my mother
used to punish me by whacking me.
GENDER STEREOTYPING: Gender stereotyping is the process of giving specific features,
characteristics, or roles to an individual woman or man based on her or his participation in a
social group of women or men.
For example, When I went to shop for my sister, three members from the staff came and told me
that I was in the wrong section and that the men’s section was on the 1st floor.
GLASS CEILING: The term glass ceiling refers to the unseen hurdles that prevent some
employees from progressing in their careers.
For example, There were only 8 students who had opted for maths in my school out of which one
was a girl. Whenever she would make a mistake in her paper the teacher would give her Grace
marks and allowed her because she made silly mistakes. By doing this, the student was not able
to clear her doubts and hence it prevented her from scoring in her exam.
