Participate and Assist

Given the concepts and the info graphic, how can you participate and assist in a face-
to-face learning environment?
As a student teacher, it is my role to observe the cooperating teacher for the first few days,
like learning the students' names as well as the procedures, routines, and classroom rules
and regulations. If my mentor allows it, I should also take the initiative to take over the
class. Teaching one lesson/subject is a good start for my teaching experience. It is also my
responsibility to enforce the regulations in order to keep the classroom under control.
There will be instances when my mentor will be out for a short period of time and I will be
in charge of managing the students. So, it is also important for me to develop good
judgment so that I can handle the situation appropriately.
Notice
Having been exposed to the traditional classrooms in your basic education, it seems
that everything is familiar. However, as teaching-learning theories evolve over time there
are changes that are taking place.
What changes have you noticed in the face-to-face classroom spaces?

What do you think brought the changes in the face-to-face learning environment now?

From my perspective, technology is the factor that has brought changes in the face-to-face
learning environment now. Through its advancement, it makes it easier for teachers to
create instructional materials for their teaching as well as foster more interaction and
small group work within the learners using technology as an enabler, which means they
are being trained to become globally competitive as 21 st century learners.

From the changes that you identified, choose one that you can do. How will you do it?

As a future teacher, it is my responsibility to ensure that my classroom environment is

equipped with the 21st century materials, principles, and approaches required for
teaching by applying what I know, allowing students to self-direct their learning, and
bridging the gap between me and my students by getting to know them and establishing a
great connection between us. Furthermore, In a modernized educational system, I can also
encourage them to use technological tools more efficiently and use social media platforms
like Facebook and YouTube in a good way to apply their learning not only in the classroom
but also in real-life situations to become more multi-literate and globally competitive
individuals that schools would like to build into their learners.
Reflect
Do you think making the learning environment conducive for a face-to-face classroom will
enable the learners to achieve better learning outcomes? Explain your answer.

Yes. Having a conducive learning environment is more than just the physical
arrangement of a classroom. It also entails the type of emotional support a child gets
when acquiring knowledge because, when a learner is in an environment where the
necessary assistance is given and interaction is encouraged, this will make them
become motivated, inspired, and engaged in their learning every day.

OBSERVE
What common problem have I noticed in a face-to-face learning environment?
 Lack of classroom management
Can I translate this problem into a question?
 What is the key to effective classroom management?

REFLECT
How would I solve the problem?
 First and foremost, I must set rules and regulations in the classroom. A well-organized,
structured classroom system helps in managing on how students should behave in the
class, and so through with this, it will avoid disruptive behaviors. Then, I will maintain
a positive attitude and give respectful and honest treatment to my students so that I
may gain their trust.
Will it improve my teaching? How?
 Effective classroom management determines teaching success. It improves my
teaching because it reduces the disruptions in class due to the rules and regulations
imposed. It keeps the students more focused and engaged in the class, as well as makes
the teaching-learning process more systematic and organized.

PLAN
What will I do to solve the problem? Describe briefly how you will do it.
 The first thing I will do is utilize effective instructional strategies. Then, I will
implement and design well-articulated rules and regulations and impose balanced
disciplinary actions that include student-involvement. The proper design of rules and
procedures involves explanation and group input. An explanation is important in
helping the students see the need for the rule and, therefore, accept it. Lastly, I want to
utilize positive reinforcement so that I can continuously encourage my students to do
well in class.

Work on my Artifacts
Visit a school, where the learning environment is face-to-face. Prepare a detailed
report describing the face-to-face learning environment in terms of the three components.
Physical Environment
 Is the space inside the room more than enough for learners to move about?
 Does the room arrangement match with teaching-learning principles? Are there
several room arrangements in the school?
 Are the visual displays attractive and do they stimulate learning?
 Are the school premises safe and is the classroom space free from hazards?
 Are the learners comfortable in terms of light and ventilation?
Psychological Environment
 Are there sets of rules and procedures followed? What are these?
 Are there sets of expectations that can motivate the learners to learn?
 Are these observable in the classroom?
- Classroom atmosphere based on trust, cooperation and empathy
- Modelling of positive attitude, respectful behavior, constructive actions
- Avoidance of ridicule, sarcasm, superiority in the classroom
- Opportunities for learners to share their experiences and learning with each
other
Social Environment
 Are there opportunities for positive interaction inside the classroom?
 Are there outdoor activities that foster friendship, camaraderie and cooperation?
 How are individual needs and differences considered
PORTFOLIO ENTRY
Title: The Face-to-Face Learning Environment

Describe the physical environment:

The room is spacious enough for learners to sit and move around during group activities. It is
arranged based on their instructional objectives and encourages student interaction. There is
no dead space that could potentially be the source of random and unlawful activity for the
learners. It also has display materials that are visibly stored and accessible. However, because
the school has no gate and security guard, I could not say that it is completely safe from
intruders. In terms of the learner's comfort, the room is well-ventilated and well-lit.

Describe the psychological environment:

The students are well-oriented in the set of rules and regulations that the teacher imposed in
the classroom and that they are expected to follow. Rules as simple as raising one’s hand when
they want to talk, respecting one another, not stealing what isn’t theirs, and so on. The
teacher uses an incentive chart to motivate the students to learn and interact and also
encouraged to express their opinions or ideas. The relationship between the teacher and
students is built on trust, cooperation, and empathy wherein the she is the one who influences
her students' positive attitudes and makes sure that she pays attention to school rules and
stays away from behaviors that disobey the school's standards of proper student conduct,
such as fighting with other students and superiority in the classroom.

Describe the social environment:

The social environment promotes relationships between teachers and students. Based on my
observation, the learning environment offers opportunities and assistance to learners to
achieve their educational goals. When the learning objectives require them to do so, they
design outdoor activities that foster positive peer relationships, and create positive
interactions among them. The school launches a feeding program for every student every
Friday to improve their nutrition and foster friendship. Although they have different beliefs
and characteristics, but everyone is treated equally.
