Ministry of Civil Aviation has released a draft National Air Sports Policy ANS - A
(NASP) to govern the air sports in India and make India one of the top
air sports nations by 2030.
• The policy will cover sports like aerobatics, aeromodelling, amateur-
built and experimental aircraft, ballooning, drones, gliding, hang
gliding, paragliding, micro-lighting, paramotoring, skydiving, and
vintage aircraft.
• Top air sports locations like Bir Billing in Himachal Pradesh,
Gangtok in Sikkim, Hadapsar in Maharashtra and Vagamon in Kerala
can be declared as “control zone” to ensure safety.
National Air Sports Policy
• Air Sports Federation of India (ASFI) will be created under the ANS - A
Ministry of Civil Aviation as an autonomous body to regulate the air
sports in India.
o ASFI will represent India at international forum like Lausanne
(Switzerland)-headquartered Fédération Aéronaautique
Internationale (FAI) and other global platforms related to air
sports.
o AFSI will form associations for each air sport.
o It will be responsible for various aspects of air sports, including
regulation, certification, competitions, awards and penalties,
etc.
