I first came across RSI in 2018 and then read
more about it last year. What really sparked my
interest was a mention of the program in an
MIT blog post. When I realized how awesome it
is, I began dreaming about getting in, not just
because of the competition and prestige but
also because of the exposure to a high stan-
dard of research and performance. From that
moment, being at RSI was a major goal I set
for myself.
The application process was long and ardu-
ous. I had to meet stringent requirements for
grades and extracurricular activities, find
three recommenders, and write persuasive per-
sonal statements that fully captured my love
for science and research. The one month’s wait
to hear back from them was excruciating. Of
course, it was all worth it.

intensity of our impact on the environment. For exam-
ple, one goal that I hope we can achieve soon is to find
viable ways to make renewable energy our primary
source for power.
