BH Engine (Lambda)

Practice 1
Components location
Check engine components position in the vehicle and changed things compare with lambda I
engine system. (Check how to remove each connector)

Changed things:

Answer:
1) CVVT system: In lambda II dual CVVT is applied (intake, exhaust) compared with lambda I
engine.
- Total 4 CVVT assembly is applied (2 CVVT for exhaust, 2 CVVT for intake)

BH Engine (Lambda)
- 4 CMP sensor is used. Each sensor for each camshaft.
- Exhaust OCV is installed in camshaft cap.

2) Power steering pump removed (optional item): In EHPS applied vehicle has not power steering
pump which was rotated by driving belt
before.

3) Alternator and battery: In BH battery is located in trunk side instead of engine room cause of
weight proportion (FR type) and engine room layout. Battery sensor is applied in “-“ terminal to
detect the battery temperature, charging condition. This signals sent to ECM by LIN
communication. Using this information, ECM control alternator generating ratio through “C”
terminal. So alternator has 4 terminal those are “ C, FR, L, B” terminal.

Practice 2
Dual CVVT system
1) Check exhaust camshaft position by diagnosis tool current data.
How to operate exhaust camshaft in idling condition and acceleration.

Answer:

1) idle condition (exhaust cam position 0 deg) 2) acceleration condition (approx. -20 deg)

BH Engine (Lambda)
Current data related to battery sensor shows “battery sensor current, temperature, SOC (state
Of Charge.
At 1st step of control, the target voltage of 14.2V for reproducing the consumption current by the
start motor after ignition is maintained for 2~3 minutes. After that, as it is the 2nd step of control,
the fuel saving section maintains the target voltage of 12.7V for 1560 seconds. In this section, the
target voltage of alternator is 12.7V. If the battery voltage is higher than this voltage, the battery will
start discharge due to this voltage difference. For taking out from the discharge sections, if 2A of
more current is discharged per hour after 1560 seconds, then it enters into the 3rd control mode
when SOC is lower than 85%.
For 3rd control, the default generation control in which the set voltage is varied within the target
SOC control section according to the battery temperature is performed.
